Wayne Lord Googins

Wayne Lord Googins, 76, of Englewood, Florida, passed away on December 2, 2023. He was born on June 22, 1947, in Portland, Maine and was raised in Pine Point.

Wayne loved telling stories of growing up in Pine Point "the greatest place on earth", as he called it, surrounded by family and friends, attending school in the one-room Pine Point Schoolhouse with his cousins and brother until 3rd grade. In his early teens, Wayne and his brother, Barry, began lobstering in the family business and then at sixteen they owned and operated the Googins Fried Clam Stand during the summer and fall seasons.

Wayne graduated from Scarborough High School in 1966, attended Southern Maine Community College, University of Southern Maine, Portland/Gorham and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Almeda University. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve and had a 30-year career in Healthcare Administration in Hospitals in Florida, Georgia, and Louisiana as Vice President of Support and Operations. He was active in community service and served on many Community and Healthcare Advisory Boards over the years. He was also licensed as a real estate agent in the state of Florida, was an avid golfer, and enjoyed tennis and racquetball, as well.

Wayne will be remembered for his engaging, witty personality and communication skills. He could talk to anyone about anything and had the ability to light up a room. He rarely forgot a face or name and never met a stranger.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl Googins; sons, Aaron (Wendy) Googins, Benjamin Googins, and Matthew Spaulding; six grandchildren; Joshua, Emily, Jason, Dillon, Jake and Taylor; brother, Barry (Helene) Googins; nephew, Bryan (Cindy) Googins; and great-nieces, Madeleine and Natalie. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Stella Googins; and parents, Robert and Marjorie Googins.

The Googins family will hold a private Celebration of Life. Contributions may be made to Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida.
