Wayne Thomas Healey

1943 ~ 2018
Wayne Thomas Healey, 75, completed this part of his journey on April 15, 2018. He was born in Murray, Utah to Glen Healey and Helen Holmes on January 9, 1943. He grew up in South Salt Lake and graduated from Granite High School. He married Peggy Lee (1962) with whom he had three daughters, Cheri, Kim and Michele. While serving in the Air Force they lived in Texas, Germany and Greece. He graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Sociology.
You might have met Wayne if your car broke down on the side of the road. He seldom drove by without stopping to help. There wasn't anything he couldn't fix, his favorite remedy being a rubber hose and a clamp. Wayne loved to travel; his adventurous spirit led him and his beloved wife, Laura Skinner (m.1975), to convert a school bus in the late 70s and spend the next few years traveling. This gave him plenty of opportunity to philosophize about Zen Buddhism, seek peaceful beauty in nature, swim in the ocean and play his guitar around a campfire. When Wayne, aka Papa, wasn't teaching each of his daughters how to change their oil, brake fluid or fix a flat tire, he was teaching the importance of being honest, kind, conscientious and respectful; not just of other people but to all living things.
Wayne is survived by his wife Laura of 43 years, and five daughters; Cheri Healey Buttars (Bart) of Nibley, UT., Kim Healey Kloberdanz (Kevin) of North Ogden, UT., Michele Healey Vickerman (Mike) of Spokane, WA., Amy Nelson VanNood (Curtis) of Stansbury Park, UT., and Edi Nelson (Eric Adler) of La Jolla, CA. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, his brothers Ray Healey (Joanna), Riley Yorke (Rula) of Coppell, TX., and sister Merle Yorke Schutz (David) of North Salt Lake, UT. He is preceded in death by his grandson, Marcus Coates and sister, Joyce Frazier.
Wayne's family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Heart and Home Assisted Living Center; to Lisa Deguenon for her devoted, wonderful loving care; and to Julie Brady RN, and the staff of Comfort WoRx Hospice for their kind and gentle care.

Graveside service will be held August 18 th , 1PM at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 1342 East 500 South, SLC, UT . A celebration of life will be held that evening at This Is The Place Heritage Park, The Pack House 4-6PM. In consideration of the August heat we will commemorate Papa's perennial attire of shorts or sweatpants in casual, summer attire.
