Wayne WEINKAUF Obituary

Published by Saskatoon StarPhoenix from May 22 to May 23, 2014.
Wayne Peter Weinkauf
The family of Wayne Weinkauf are deeply saddened to announce Wayne's passing on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at the age of 61 years. Wayne passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and siblings in Palliative Care at St. Paul's Hospital, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Remaining to forever cherish his memory are his wife and soulmate of 36 years, Donna, and his children, Tyler and Cindy. He will also be fondly remembered by his siblings Gerry (Lori), Theresa (Ken) Bosch, and Murray (Jackie). "Uncle Wayne" will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews and their children. Wayne was predeceased by his infant brother Joseph (1965), brother Ray (2003), mother Madeline (2007), father Peter (2008), father-in-law Harold MacLeod (2011) and mother-in-law Marguerite MacLeod (2012). Wayne grew up in the towns of Reward and Denzil. As a middle child, he formed strong relationships with his two older brothers and younger sister and brother. Wayne maintained lifelong friendships and was one of the "The Denzil Boys." He was a journeyman carpenter and teacher. In 1989 Wayne and his family moved from Saskatoon to their cabin at The Shores of Lac Des Isles, near Goodsoil. He taught at Big Island Lake and Makwa Sahgaiehcan Schools. Wayne was a fun, caring, fair, and firm teacher as well as a volleyball, basketball, and badminton coach. Wayne always made time to coach, cheer, or attend his children's sports and school activities. In 2006 Wayne and Donna started Northwest Homes, and built many homes and cabins in the Goodsoil area. In 2011 they opened Goodsoil Lumber & Building Supplies. Wayne lived the dream. He and his friends and family enjoyed countless hours at Lac Des Isles. Fond memories of Wayne will include fishing, boating, beach volleyball, bones, cards, and campfires. Wayne loved to take people places. He took friends and family on many adventures including Round Lake and Cold River. In 2012 Wayne took his family to Hawaii for the trip of a lifetime. The family will forever cherish the memories made. Wayne was easily loved by many. People and animals naturally gravitated toward him. He was patient, kind, gentle, and had a great sense of humour. Wayne will be missed by all who knew him. A special thank you to the medical teams who were God's hands and enabled Wayne to enjoy a full life. Wayne's life was saved at the age of 13 by using the cobalt radiation machine now housed at the Western Development Museum. Wayne beat cancer again at the age of 33, but sadly lost his third battle. Thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff who recently provided such compassionate care for Wayne at St. Paul's Hospital Palliative Care Unit. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Terry Fox Foundation (terryfox.org). A Prayer Service will be held at St. Boniface Roman Catholic Church in Goodsoil, Saskatchewan on Friday, May 23, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church (535-8th Street East, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan). Family and friends may send online condolences from www.hillcrestmemorial.ca Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Charmaine Menard.

Dear Donna and family It is with great sadness that we receive this tragic news, Wayne was such a dear friend whom we loved to add to our family, he was considered a brother, and friend and will be greatly missed, it was always such a pleasure to stop for a visit and I will remember all of our good times in Lloydminster playing ball and hockey, fond memories to reflect on this dear friend. May your sorrows be over shadowed by the many great memories.

Donna, Cindy and Tyler,

My sincere condolences on the loss of so fine a husband and father, and my eternal gratitude for sharing Wayne with so many of us. It was my honour to work with Wayne at Makwa, and some of my fondest memories are of fishing trips and staff get togethers with Wayne. He was a master teacher, and I learned so very much from him, lessons I still share with my students. Know that he still continues to shape and influence the lives of young people as a result of the real impact he has had on all with whom he worked: we learned so very much from him. Thank you, again, so very muc for sharing him with so very many. We are all so much richer for having had him in our lives.
