William BEDINGHAUS Obituary

Published by Tampa Bay Times on Feb. 2, 2016.
BEDINGHAUS, William H.

just 15 days shy of his 94th birthday, passed away peacefully at home Jan. 31, 2016. "Bill," from Cincinnati, OH, was the oldest of two children, born to William G. and Alma Bedinghaus. He was a decorated World War II Army veteran, serving in the South Pacific Arena. After four years of service, Bill returned to civilian life and eventually invested in a small printing company. In the subsequent years, he married his bride, Mary Stella Hoelker, and grew the business into the successful Bedinghaus Business Forms. He also was granted several industry related patents. In the late 60s, he sold the company, and in 1970 Bill and Mary, along with their nine children, moved to St. Petersburg. In between raising their family, Bill and Mary enjoyed sailing, and were members of Boca Ciega Yacht Club. They also enjoyed traveling across the country in their RV, exploring National Treasures, and visiting their extended family. Their grandchildren will forever remember holidays at their home -- bonding while swimming in the bay, paddle boarding, kayaking, and windsurfing. Bill will forever be remembered for his dry wit, quiet intelligence, and devotion to his children. Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mary; daughter, Jenny; his parents; and sister, Audrey Diamante. He is survived by his children, Sr. Ruth Bedinghaus, S.N.D., Raes (Rob) Williams, "Mary Rae Carroll", William C. (Debbie), Jim (Eileen), David (Kim), Angel (Sherman) Zent, Bob (Sue), and Paul (Hon. Susan P.). Bill is also survived by 19 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. His family is extremely grateful for the love and care he received from his caregivers. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am Saturday, Feb. 6, at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, 1600 54th Ave. S. Burial to follow with military honors, at Royal Palm South Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Suncoast Hospice/Empath Health and St. Anthony's Hospital Foundation. On line memorial and guestbook at:

There are no words to describe the sadness our family feels over the loss of the wonderful man. Everyone likes to think their Dad's were "the best"....this man truly was the best example of what a Father should be. I learned so much from he and my mother in law about the true meaning of unconditional love. While I am an "in law" they never made me feel I was anything but their "daughter" and I truly see them as my "Mom" and "Dad" (I'm allowed more than one of each---) They created a family dynamic rarely seen these days. For more than 35 years, I have spent EVERY Christmas Eve, Easter, 4th of July and innumerable celebrations for birthdays, anniversaries, new babies, engagements, graduations, first communions, and my favorite of times "let's go hang out at Grandma and Grandpa's house". I am glad you are with Mom, Jenny, Aunt Jinny, Aunt Jean, and all the rest whom we all have loved and still miss. My heart is beyond heavy for the loss while being truly eternally grateful for my gain by being one of your kids. I just want to say "Thank you" (with a wink and smile).
