To all Billys family....we are in shock on hearing the passing of Billy ....
When Billy was a young child in Ireland he would visit us down the country in Holycross the birthplace of his late dad William Ryan ..who was my grandmothers Julia{Bab} Ryans brother..
Billy told me he still remembered the noise of the crows in the trees across from the old cottage ...and had lovely memories of his time in Holycross...
Sending our sympathy and prayers to you all....from all your cousins ..The O Mearas and Kellys in Eire...

I first started working with Bill when I was a consultant working at the MCH Site. Bill immediately struck me as someone with quick wit, a ready smile and had an enjoyment of a good laugh. He helped me through my formative years of learning the "what not to do" when dealing with Healthcare construction.
We worked on many projects together not only at the MCH, but the GCH as well. Bill and I always looked for chances to meet for lunch at a spicy Indian restaurant or for coffee to catch up on how things were outside of the office environment where our schedules allowed.
I visited Bill when I could when he was at the UAH over the last 11 months and always held true to my belief that Bill would win his battle with Cancer and be back, better than ever.
During those visits, he was always as sharp and ready with a smile as he ever was despite the situation he was dealt with. I will remember those visits fondly.
Good-bye Bill. As Mike said - you WILL be missed, but not forgotten.
Billy at his best

My sincerest condolences to the Ryan family on the loss of Billy. I first met him in 1994 when he was working with the Caritas Health Group and I was doing some contract work that summer. He immediately struck me as a very good humoured person who was always willing to help out. We would cross paths again two years later after I started working with Capital Health and we were both involved with capital construction projects for our respective organizations. Over the years we had frequent dealings with each other until he left Caritas to join Alberta Infrastructure in 2007.
As we each had a soccer team, but in different leagues, we would arrange a friendly game in the fall as we prepared our teams for the indoor season. We only managed to do this for three years and all my team could muster was one tie against those somewhat older, but highly skilled Irish Nomads. In more recent years I often ran into him at the soccer centre when he was refereeing and we would catch up on the latest news.
Billy, you will be missed.

To the Ryan Family,
I remember the first day I met Bill, it was 4 years ago, and he was just hired as a Project Manager with Alberta Infrastructure. I introduced myself to Bill on his first day of work and he mentioned that he knew me from soccer. Right away I knew that we would get along famously. Since Bill was a Man United fan and I was a Liverpool fan, we both teased each other continuously when our team was winning. It was usually Bill doing all the teasing since his team was always winning. I cherish the times him and I would have lunch in the boardroom together watching soccer....cheering and yelling at the tv. Even though on paper Bill was my co-worker, he was my friend and I dearly miss him. My sincere condolences.

Marion, Siobhan and Ronan, I am so sorry for your loss. I remember being concerned about whether things would come to 'blows' when he and Bob Millichamp, Cody Loy, Eva Filipowicz and later on Lesley Harrison would 'talk of' world and political issues. However, they were lively discussions only and Bill would often 'stir the pot' to add spice to the conversations. He is missed by those that knew, worked or played sports with or against him.

To Marian and Family,
Bill leaves us much too soon, still shocking and very sad departure. Many memories come back quickly and all of them seem to be of enjoying life with family and friends. Remembered, not to be forgotten, with a smile, quick wit and desire to embrace the world to the fullest. A rare and wonderful quality that Bill brought with him to us all. You will be missed... Cheers, my Friend!

I am stunned. I didn't know that Billy was so ill. He was a great guy and had a wonderful sense of humor. I played golf with Billy many times and was there to watch him hit three consecutive balls into the pond on the 5th hole at the Derrick Club on a fine summer day a few years ago. Losing Bill so soon is truly a loss for his family and all of his many friends. He is truly a man that i will remember fondly and a man that i will miss. It must be raining in Ireland today. I hope one of his friends in the old country is raising a toast to his memory.

To Marian and the kids,
We send our heartfelt condolences to you during this time. Billy certainly fought the battle with courage & dignity.
We hope you may find comfort in knowing how much of an impact he left on his many friends through his humour and good spirit. Billy always went out of his way to welcome our 2 boys and say hello whenever we came to watch the Irish Nomads play.

Goodnight and joy be with you all."

Billy, you were a great ambassador for Edmonton soccer, a respected coach and player of the Irish Nomads, and a wonderful friend. I still smile thinking of that head ball goal you scored, two yards from the line, headed straight into the floor and up into the top of the net. Classic. You didn't score many, but they were memorable. I miss you, brother.

It came as a complete shock to me when I heard of Bill's untimely passing. I moved to the Island in 2004 and looked forward each May to the oldtimers tournament in Vernon, where I could meet up with my old soccer buddies from Edmonton.Bill was a great guy, a class act and I know his many friends have lost a very special person. I have forwarded this sad news to Rod Adams and I know he too would like to pass our sincere condolences to Bill's family. Ian Andexser, Nanaimo

It brought great sadness when our team heard of Bill's passing.
We (Spruce Grove soccer team) have known and played against Bill and the Irish team for about 25 years, Bill was always a big part of the team both on and off the field and we all had the utmost of respect for him.
Bill will always be remembered as a friendly, fun, witty and really nice person.
