William Howard Braum, of Braum's Ice Cream and Dairy Stores, died at his home near Tuttle, Oklahoma, March 23, 2020. He was fortunate to be at the place he loved until his last day.
Bill was born in Newton, Kansas to Howard and Emma McClanahan Braum February 11, 1928, but moved to Emporia, Kansas with his parents and two older sisters as a small boy. He worked for his father from childhood in a little dairy, processing, home delivery and one ice cream store named Peter Pan Ice Cream and helped build the business from one store to several. Bill purchased the business from his father in 1957. From 1957-1967, it grew to 61 stores across Kansas. In 1968 the business in Kansas was sold and Braum's was started in Oklahoma. The small dairy farming operation was moved from Kansas in 1975 and grew to be one of the larger dairy farms in the United States.
Bill graduated from Emporia High School and the University of Kansas. He was married to Mary Elaine Wise in 1949 and they had four children. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, and last year his daughter Rebecca. He is survived by his wife Mary, his daughter Elaine, and his sons Murray and Drew. Beloved grand-children are William Hersh and Theresa Henninger of the Dallas area, Carollanne Braum-Mislova of Prague, Czech Republic, Marion Sparks of Highland's Ranch, Colorado, Drew Braum II of Norman, Oklahoma, Emma Braum of Oklahoma City, Colton Braum of Nichols Hills and Ellen Braum of Stonewall, Oklahoma. There are nine great grandchildren.
A private family graveside burial will be in Minco, Oklahoma and in view of the Coronavirus restrictions, no other service is planned. Under the direction of Huber-Reynolds Funeral Home in Minco.

Thank you always to Mr Braun and his family. My family has worked for the Braun’s in Tahlequah,
Oklahoma. The best ice cream products in the state area because of your fine work. So sad at your lose. Praying for you.

Bill was a huge part of our family's life. He was the first and only Man my father ever worked for starting in Kansas. My parents moved here to Oklahoma so my father could continue to work for Bill for over 50 years. Had they not followed Bill to Oklahoma I would not have had them as my parents, I was born here and adopted by them. So thank you Bill & Mary for allowing them to follow you here. Because of that I ended up with the greatest parents ever, Kenneth & Jane Schlup.

It was so sad to hear about Bills passing. He lead a full life and will be really missed. His best friend Don Luallin (my husband for 26 years) grew up together and played at Peter Pan Park which then became the name of Howards (an later Bills) Ice Cream Stores. Best regards

Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope. Praying for The family and all of us who are part of the Braums Ice Cream & Dairy Store family, May your hearts mend as you remember those special memories and all the joy that Mr. Braums brought to us all. I pray the peace that surpasses all understanding and comfort in these trying times will come and carry you through. Fly high Mr. Braums job well done the race was a great one.

I was the manager of the Braum's in Tri-City
until I became a District Manager. Because this
store was closest to the Braum's home near Tuttle, the Braums came a lot to this store.
They were always so friendly, positive,and
happy. When they would ask about how different
ice creams were selling, I always put in a big
plug for Cappuccino because it was new and I
loved it! After I became a District Manager
they always remained so supportive of me. It truly was an honor to work for Mr. Braum!!!
