William Lloyd Carlile, Jr. passed away October 27, 2017 in his home in Mill Valley, California. He was 70 years old. He is survived by his wife, Maria, his son William Lloyd Carlile III, his sister Joan Carlile Jones and various cousins, nieces and nephews. He was the son of William Lloyd Carlile, Sr. and Elsie Rau Carlile, both of whom predeceased him. Bill, as his family and friends called him, was born in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, but grew up in Severna Park, Maryland. There he attended Severna Park High School and played football and lacrosse. He received his BA degree from Roanoke College in Virginia and received his MBA at the University of California, Berkeley. He served in the US Army and received the Joint Commendation Medal in June 1971 for exceptionally meritorious service. He was a commercial and investment banker through most of his career but started teaching late in life. He was Professor of Economics at Hult International Business School for many years teaching a variety of subjects such as corporate finance and micro and macroeconomics. His students consistently gave him superlative reviews for inspiring them to understand the appeal and importance of Economics. Bill was a Guardsman and a member of the Bohemian Club and a big fan of Cal football. He was long known for his positive outlook on life and his incisive sense of humor. He will be sorely missed by a multitude of friends. A private memorial service will be held in Piedmont, California for family members and friends in February. To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

Dear Carlile Family, and particularly Maria,
I was terribly saddened to hear of Bill's passing. I just returned from 5 weeks in Chile, and had an email and other notices from The Bohemian Club and individual Bohemians letting me know that Bill had passed. I was shocked, as I was not aware of any illness.
I am so very sorry to have missed the memorial service. Bill was the most energetic and enthusiastic guy! Always a smile and a good word. What a great man.
God bless, and please know many of us are sharing in your grief.
With warm wishes and condolences,
Dave Hagerman-Bohemian

Maria and Billy, plus other family and countless friends, please accept my sincere condolences for your great loss of, Bill.
He lived large and made a lasting positive impact on those he encountered with his trenchant sense of humor, down to the end. "Now,however, these three remain: faith, hope, love ; but the greatest of these is love."
