William DeVore Obituary

William Newton "Bill" DeVore, 75, resident of 111 Sheffield Road, husband of Anne Hutto Walker DeVore, died Sept. 27, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.

Born in Greenwood County, Aug. 19, 1927, he was a son of the late Theodore C. DeVore and Kathleen Garrett DeVore Copeland. He was a graduate of Ninety Six High School and a 1949 graduate of Clemson College. He was a U.S. Nancy veteran of World War II.

Mr.DeVore retired as Director of Engineering for Abney Mills and was currently employed with Davis & Floyd Inc.

He was a member of Greenwood First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church where he was a member and teacher of the United Sunday School Class and was also an Elder of the Church. He was a member and past president of the Greenwood Kiwanis Club and was a charter member of the South Carolina Football Officials Association Hall of Fame. He served as vice president of the Elmwood Cemetery Association in Ninety Six.

Mr. DeVore was twice married, first to the late Julia Coleman DeVore.

Surviving in addition to his wife of the home, are a son, William N. "Bill" DeVore II of Charlotte, N.C.; four daughters, Jackie D. Roark of Greenwood, Dianne D. Lanning of Pearland, Texas, Debora D. Brunson of Dallas, Texas and Caroline D. Kenney of Amherst, N.H.; two stepdaughters, Dixie W. Self and Connie W. Wornall, both of Greenwood; a stepson, Drew Walker of Greenwood; a brother, Theodore C. DeVore Jr. of Athens, Ga.; and 21 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday from the Greenwood First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Don Elliot, Dr. Tony Hopkins and Dr. Mack Brunson officiating.

Entombment will be in Oakbrook Memorial Park Chapel Mausoleum.

Pallbearers will be Mat Self, Al Worfnall, James Ferqueron, Robert Templeton, Blake Garrett Jr., Greg Coleman,. Emmett Davis and Walter Roark Jr.

The body is at Blyth Funeral Home and will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Monday.

The family is at the home in Sheffield and will receive friends at the funeral home from 3 to 5 p.m. this afternoon.

Memorials may be made to Greenwood First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, 1635 Cokesbury Road, Greenwood, SC 29649.
