William Thomas Doble, Sr.

St. Augustine - William (Bill) Thomas Doble, Sr., 95, of Stittville passed away July 26, 2025 at the Community Hospice Bailey Family Center for Caring in St. Augustine, FL.

Bill was born on August 5, 1929 in Caerphilly, Wales, the only child of William and Lottie Doble. He came to the US in the summer of 1939 with his grandmother, Sarah Doble. Because of World War II, he stayed in this country and then graduated from Holland Patent Central School in June 1946.

After a brief stay back in the UK where he served in the Royal Air Force, Bill returned to the US and served 2 years in the US Army during the Korean War, stationed at Ft. McNair in Washington, DC. After his military service, he worked at Homestead Savings and Loan in Utica for 38 years, finishing as Vice President when he retired in 1991.

Bill was active in the community. He was a long-time member of the Lions Club, both in Utica and St. Augustine, FL. He was a long-serving member of the Stittville Volunteer Fire Department and Stittville United Methodist Church. He also volunteered at Stonehedge Nursing Home from 2008-2020.

Homestead Savings and Loan is where he met his future wife Elizabeth (Wilkie) Doble. They married on July 14, 1956 in Utica. The happy couple were married for almost 52 years. His wife, Elizabeth, predeceased him in 2008. He is survived by 3 children, 5 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren: Karen and Mark Kempler (daughter and son-in-law), Kelsey Kempler and Brett Maistri (granddaughter and husband), Mia and Jonah Maistri (great grandchildren), Stephen and Pam Doble (son and daughter-in-law), Matthew and Rebecca Doble (grandchildren), William and Wangechi Doble (son and daughter-in-law), Elizabeth and Willy Doble (grandchildren), and Jeanette Pierson who stayed with our family in the early 1970s as a foreign exchange student from South Africa and has been viewed like a daughter ever since. Jeanette's family is Jon Pierson (husband), Jeremy and Rebecca Pierson (son and daughter-in-law), and Josiah Pierson (grandson).

The family would like to express special thanks to the staff of Allegro Senior Living in St. Augustine, FL for their care and compassion over the last 4 years.

There will be a graveside service on August 4, 2025 at 12:00pm at Townsend Cemetery in Stittville.
