William Lathwell

LATHWELL , William William George Lathwell, formerly of Cochrane, Alberta passed away in the early hours of March 19, 2009 at the Golden Eagle View Long Term Care Facility in Canmore, of natural causes at the age of 101. Born in Calgary on November 21, 1907, William lived his entire life in Alberta. He homesteaded near deBolt during the Depression before returning to the Foothills to work as a lumberjack southwest of Morley; and then as field foreman for Shell Oil at Jumping Pound until his retirement in 1972. He spent his early retirement years working on his youngest son's ranch northwest of Sundre before adjourning to a quiet life of gardening at his home in Cochrane. He is predeceased by four brothers; one sister; his wife Emily and son James. William is survived by his two sons, Robert (Myrna) and Dave (Lynn); six grandchildren, Andrea (Boyd), Sandi (Brent), Lisa (Jay), Dean (Kym), Russ (Tami) and Murray; as well as nine great-grandchildren, Shane (Lucia), Kriston, Kyle, Alysia, Dallas, Brodie, Kit, Devon, and Nathan. A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of MOUNTAIN VIEW FUNERAL HOME on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made directly to Canmore & Area Health Care Foundation - Golden Eagle View Long Term Care Facility (1100 Hospital Place, Canmore, AB, T1W 1N2), or charity of choice.
