William Lay Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 15, 2025.
Stuart - William Perry "Bill" Lay, 83, passed away on February 13, 2025, in Stuart, Florida.

Born on January 7, 1942, in Toledo, Ohio, Bill built a life marked by dedication to his family, career, and passions. In 1969, he moved to North Palm Beach to begin his career at Fidelity Federal as a loan officer. His hard work and leadership led him to roles as a branch manager and vice president. Later, he transitioned to Nationwide Insurance as a sales manager, a position that took him across Florida-Gainesville, Boca Raton, and Ormond Beach-as well as Houston, Texas. Eventually, he returned home to Palm Beach Gardens and rejoined Fidelity Federal as president of its insurance division.

Beyond his professional achievements, Bill was known for his adventurous spirit and love of life. He found joy in riding his Harley, driving his Corvette, and lobster diving in the Florida Keys. Traveling was another passion of his, but above all else, he cherished time spent with his family. He married the love of his life in 1978, and spent 46 years as a devoted and loving husband. Bill was deeply involved in the lives of those he loved, a staunch advocate for his children and grandchildren. Bill was not only a great coach but also a natural leader who inspired those around him.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Sallie W. Lay; his sons William (Sandy), Michael (Jill), and Thomas (Maureen); his grandchildren Emily Radentz (Matthew), Michael Lay, and Olivia Lay; and his great-granddaughter Charlotte Marie Radentz.

A funeral service will be held on February 22, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church in Juno Beach, Florida (13301 Ellison Wilson Road). A reception will follow at the Twisted Tuna.

Bill's legacy of love, adventure, and leadership will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be missed every day of our lives.

Bill was a wonderfully kind man who always had a smile and a funny story to share. I´m sad to hear of his passing but I am so thankful that I was able to enjoy his company at the FFBT alumni lunches that Deb Schiavone puts together a few times throughout the year. His shiny, glowing presence will be sorely missed by all who were blessed to know him and call him "friend." He truly was a ray of sunshine! My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. Fair winds and following seas, my friend.

I will always remember riding in one of his corvettes. I and Lucy enjoyed his perfectly done deep fried turkey. We will miss his knowledge, humor and emails.

I always enjoyed seeing Bill. He was always happy and positive, always had a nice word and a great outlook. He raised a great family and loved all of his children, Sallie and adored his granddaughter. I remember how Happy he was at his granddaughters wedding and how much fun he had when we were in the Keys. A true gentlemen.

I only met Bill a couple times, but he was such a sweet man and he adored his wife, Sallie, who I worked with for many years. I know he will be greatly missed by reading all the wonderful thoughts and memories of who he was as a husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Sallie, you are in my thoughts and prayers. Love you.
