William Shamburger Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jun. 13 to Jun. 14, 2018.
SHAMBURGER William Boman, 71, passed away on June 11, 2018. He was born in Louisville, Kentucky on February 11, 1947, to the late Florence Newton Shamburger and Boman Lafayette Shamburger. He is survived by his children, Kelsey Shamburger of Washington, DC, and Boman Shamburger of Lexington, KY. Throughout his life, Bill was known for his quick wit, integrity, sense of humor, and tireless work ethic. Bill first and foremost considered himself a father- he was a devoted parent who made many sacrifices to support his two children. Bill earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Kentucky, and was an avid UK fan despite his Louisville roots. He had a unique career path, working as an auto mechanic, owning a men's clothing store, and serving in state government before becoming a financial advisor for over 30 years. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to his team of devoted caregivers, and close friend and colleague Richard Noonan. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Milward-Man O' War, 1509 Trent Blvd. in Lexington. In lieu of flowers, the family welcome contributions to Community Montessori School at 725 Stone Rd. in Lexington, Kentucky, or the Lexington Hearing & Speech Center at 350 Henry Clay Blvd. www.milwardfuneral.com

Bill was one of my oldest and finest friends. He was the type of friend that time and distance did not dilute. We met in Lexington in 1967 and have maintained a close relationship since that time. The early days were pre anything - marriage, kids, income, passion for life. We grew together. We shared highs and lows of each other's life. We traded dry shoulders or boots in the butt, whichever was needed.
A person is lucky in life to know, and be a friend of, a person like Bill. He will be missed by me but I will do as he would wish - tonight I will have two fingers of Kentucky bourbon and toast the memories of our great times together.

I met Bill when I was 8 and he was 10. We grew up next door to each other in Louisville near Cherokee Park. We golfed together, swam together and explored the park together. We kept in touch through the years. There was not a time when Bill did not call me on my birthday. Ours fathers took us to many Louisville Basketball games. There was a time when Bill wore Red, honest!
My condolences to Kelsey and Bo.
So long old friend, you will be missed and forever remembered. Peace.
