William Teas Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 4, 2025.
William C. Teas, affectionately known as Bill or Billy, passed away peacefully at home on May 21, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on May 7, 1951, in Orange, New Jersey, Bill brought his East Coast spirit West in 1977, making California his beloved home for the rest of his life.

Bill lived a life of wholehearted passion - whether in his work, hobbies, or his deep love for family and faith. He began his career working with his father and brother Surveying in Long Island New York. In San Diego, he worked for a Surveying firm EF Cook and Associates, performing field construction staking and boundary surveys. He started his public sector career with the City of Escondido Engineering Department (1978-1990) where he performed plan checks, and field inspections. Worked for the City of Oceanside Engineering Department (1990-2003) as a project manager for capital improvement construction projects, and developed Storm Water Regulations procedures that are still in use today. In 2003, he founded Teas Land Surveying, he performed ALTA Surveys, Topographic Surveys, Record of Surveys, Parcel Maps, Subdivision Maps, and FEMA flood certifications for residences and development projects throughout San Diego County. He continued operating the business until December 2024. He expressed his creativity through Teas Surfboards, a surfboard shaping business he ran from 1992 to 2000, crafting surfboards of all varieties of shapes and sizes that carried his love for the ocean and community.

An avid surfer, bodyboarder, and cyclist, Bill loved being outdoors and sharing that joy with others-whether teaching his granddaughters how to bodyboard or riding the waves with his son John. He was a dog lover, a traveler, and someone who poured his heart into everything he did. Bill had a gift for teaching, he shared his knowledge of surveying, shaping surfboards, and simply sharing wisdom. His love for life was matched only by his deep love for his family and his devotion to God.

Bill was a faithful and active member of New Life Presbyterian Church in Escondido, where he found both spiritual community and purpose. He was also a dedicated member of the California Land Surveyors Association and the San Diego North County Engineers and Land Surveyors Association.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Marsha Teas, whom he married in August 2017; his daughters, Jessica Teas and Andrea Hansen (Steve) and granddaughter Helen; his son, Jonathan Teas (Molly); his stepchildren, Chris McGaugh (Sarah) and Mike McGaugh (Amanda); his step-grandchildren, Tracey and Rylee Hansen; and Zach, Lucas, Dahlia, and Marigold McGaugh. Brother Tom Teas (Lini), sisters Courtney Teas, Nancy Teas and Barbara Carolan (Lawrence).

Bill was preceded in death by his first wife, Diana Teas, with whom he shared 41 cherished years of marriage with until her passing in 2016.

Those who knew Bill will remember his boundless energy, kind heart, strong faith, and the way he made everyone around him feel valued and supported. His legacy lives on in the lives he shaped, the waves he rode, and the family he cherished.

Memorial service: Will be held at 10 am on Saturday, July 26th at New Life Presbyterian Church (615 W. Citracado Pkwy, Escondido CA 92025). All are welcome to attend.

Bill, you will always be embedded in my mind as a 14 yr. Old-freckle face cousin, who I would see when our families would get together from time to time. A lifetime has pass, but know as a believer we will meet again. An old Gospel songs says; When done with the toils and cares of this life, When ended the turmoil, the sin and the strife; The angels will carry me over the tide, And ever with Jesus my soul shall abide. See ya later cuz- Gail Johnson-Haase- AZ
