ISMAIL
SIR DR. "JOHN" YAHIA H., D.M.D, M.S., Ph.D.
John Ismail, age 76, of Las Vegas, formerly of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away May 26, 2014, after falling in his home just four days earlier. He was born in Alexandria, Egypt Jan 20, 1938, to Hassan Ismail and Horayah Soliman. He was preceded in death by sisters, Nadia and Zeinab; and brother, Kamel. John is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 45 years, Launa; beloved sons, Alan and Zane (Lisa); grandchildren, Sean, Natalie, Talia, and Zoe; siblings, Adel, Afaf, Fekry, Ahmed, Laila, and Galal; and many beloved nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Dr. Bassam Rabie, John's nephew from Cairo, was present to represent the Egyptian side of the family. Professionally, John was known nationally and internationally as a dental specialist in Prosthodontics and Implantology, an exceptional clinician, dental educator, lecturer, publisher and researcher. After more than three decades with the University of Pittsburgh, School of Dental Medicine, John retired as Professor Emeritus of Prosthodontics. In Las Vegas, John was a clinical instructor at Roseman University Dental School. He continued to lecture and practice dentistry, and organized the NV Section of the American College of Dentists. John was recognized for his outstanding achievements with awards, accolades, and honorary professorships worldwide. He held office in, sat on the Board of Directors, and belonged to a plethora of prestigious dental organizations. John was both a Mason and a Shriner. He also took great pride in having served as Grand Prior of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem Knights of Malta. John was happy to reduce suffering and pain both professionally, with his patients, and personally with his students, friends and family. He treated, mentored and counseled so many. His greatest joy was always his family, above all else. A service of Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sat., June 14, 2014, at Mt. View Presbyterian Church, 8601 Del Webb Blvd., Las Vegas, NV 89134. The family requests that any gestures of remembrance be made in the form of a donation to the charity of your choice.

I keep hearing your voice. Those little sayings and vocal expressions you made that were distinctly yours. And for just one magical sliver of time, I feel the comfort of your presence. I try to hold on to it despite the realization that always follows: it is my own voice I am hearing. I miss you, dad. I love you always.

Condolences to the Ismail family on Dr.Ismail's passing. He was one of my first professors and mentors in Prosthodontics at the Univ. of Pittsburgh. He possessed an engaging personality and was a true supporter of the specialty of Prosthodontics. I know he played a role in my becoming a prosthodontist 34 years ago. RIP Dr.Ismail

Dear Family of Dr. Ismail,
You have our deepest sympathy. We are from Pittsburgh and moved to Las Vegas in 2004. Having to set up new doctors and dentists I found Dr. Ismail after noting his Pittsburgh-affiliation in the directory I was using. After meeting Dr. Ismail and talking about the Steelers and other dentists and friends we both had in common "back home" I was so impressed. What a brilliant doctor with a wonderful personality. I will miss his care and expertise and will so much miss our conversations. A very sad day indeed for the world to lose Dr. Ismail.

I knew Yahia many years ago when he was a dental student at the Univ. Of Pittsburgh and I was the companion of his Egyptian friend, Mohamed Younis, an engineering student. We all had wonderful times together, perhaps the best of my life. I am saddened by John's passing and of the wonderful times we all had together as a group. I loved Mohamed and had great feelings for Yahia and Launa, Rest in peace my dear friend of many years ago. Love and friendship never die.

To say he was a very special friend is true, but cannot in any way express my current, now and in our bast memories. JOHN was
a special," I am my own man " individual.His
insight and ability to accomplish the numerous
gaols,he desired,is impressive. Always a professional in dentistry,education and
administration. A devotion to a full life,with
the many people that were envolved,is well
known.
He will be missed, but not forgotten,by many.
