Hazel Mae Aasved

1936 - 2024

On April 7, surrounded by her beautiful family, Hazel took her final breath. While an incredible peace engulfed the room, and everyone looked on with admiration that came from within. Hazel was everyone's hero, and now she is at peace.

Hazel was born August 14, 1936, at St. James Hospital in Butte, Montana, to Edward (Jr) and Florence Parsons. She was the first-born with sisters Donna and Linda to follow.

She graduated from Butte High School in 1955. She was a member of the Butte High School band where she played the French horn. She was active in Jobs Daughters (Masonic Organization) and served as Honorary Queen when she was 17. She cherished many fond memories of this organization and the friendships she made and was proud of the leadership role she fulfilled.

She married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Milo W. Aasved on August 11, 1956, at Gold Hill Lutheran Church, Butte, MT. They moved to Lewistown in 1962 when Milo was assigned his station with the Montana Highway Patrol. This is where they raised their four children. Both Mom and Dad were involved in the community and church on many levels.

After staying home to raise her family, she went to work at Valle Vista Manor where she devoted 34 years as the Office Administrative Assistant. She thoroughly enjoyed working with families, residents, and staff. She had a reputation for her knowledge of Private Nursing Home Insurance options, Medicare, Medicaid, and VA services as she guided families in the nursing home admit process. She was a volunteer at the Council on Aging where she delivered Meals on Wheels. Hazel was involved in the initial planning sector of the construction of the Villa Assisted Living Facility. Hazel was compassionate, caring, honest, organized, and a dependable employee. She retired in 2011.

Mom and Dad were fortunate to enjoy travels to Hawaii, Branson, Las Vegas, and an Alaskan cruise. They enjoyed winter vacations in Arizona.

Milo and Hazel enjoyed square dancing with Jayson's Twirlers. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church where she served on the Church Council and Alter Guild. She did baking for the annual church Bazaar and many Lutefisk dinners. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and Extension Club. Hazel was a devoted friend who loved to cook and entertain. She had impeccable decorating skills at home and work. She made sitting around the table sharing a meal or dessert one of the best parts of being an "Aasved." She took meticulous care of her home. Christmas was her favorite holiday. We cherish memories of her made-to-perfection Christmas bread, divinity, and delicate Norwegian cookies. She and Dad hosted the annual Christmas Eve family gathering. Music sounded throughout the house and Mom and Dad would entertain us by dancing, followed by specialty foods and drinks. This was a cherished family tradition.

She loved us, fed us, and made us better people We were lucky to have her. She treasured her children and grandchildren and embraced every moment with them.

Alzheimer's took so much away from her, but she always knew how each one of you made her feel when you were with her. This isn't goodbye, just see you later. Hugs and kisses!

She is preceded in death by her husband Milo W. Aasved, parents Florence and Edward (Jr.) Parsons, sister-and-brother-in-law Donna and Lavern Hanson, in-laws Wayne and Delia Aasved, sister-and-brother-in-law Arlis and Lawrence Connors, and niece Laura Hager.

She is survived by her sister, Linda Giacomino, Sun City, AZ. children, Christy(Steve) Rogers, Lewistown, MT, Craig (Kathy)'Aasved, Helena, MT, Connie (James) Írish, Billings, MT, Curt (Debbie) Aasved, Yuma, AZ. She was an amazing grandmother to her 11 grandchildren, Chad Rogers, Sonya Stokken, Dane Aasved Bryse Aasved, Paige ?asved, Payton Aasved, Presly Aasved, Lesie Grotjohn, Lyndee Redfield, Aleesha Kadrmas and Karissa Aasved. She was blessed with 11 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Monday, June 10, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lewistown City Cemetery. Instead of flowers, memorials may be made to Beehive Homes, 9 Bumble Bee Court, Helena, MT 59601, or Zion Lutheran Church, P.0. Box 147, Lewistown, MT 59457.
