LIMA — Daniel Jerome Kretz, 68 of Lima, went to meet his Lord and Savior on January 29, 2018 at St. Rita's Medical Center. Dan was born November 5, 1949 in Lima, OH, to Daniel and Beatrice (Barnett) Kretz, who preceded him in death. On December 19, 1987 he married the love of his life, Rebecca (Hoberhouer-Hullibarger) Kretz, who sadly passed away on April 12, 2017.
Dan attended Crossroads Church of God and was ASE certified as a Master Auto Body Repair Technician at Tom Ahl since 1975; he was a "Dan of all trades". He was a member of the Allen County Ohio Patriots, a life member of the NRA, had a private pilot's license and was a PADI scuba diving instructor, where he dove Ohio quarries, the Bahamas, the Florida Gulf and Hawaii with Becki. Family was most important to Dan; he loved being "Papa" to Jacob and Lily. Dan traveled with his wife Becki everywhere, mostly to Disney World, all of Florida, Hawaii and California. When they weren't traveling, Dan and Becki loved to go to the movies. At last, he and Becki are holding hands again and walking in sunshine, so another adventure begins.
Dan is survived by his daughter, Nicole R. (Jim) Payne of Fort Meade, MD; step-son, Edward M. Hullibarger of Lima, OH; grandchildren, Jacob and Lily Payne; step-grandchildren, Eric, Ryan and David Hullibarger and his son, Eric Kretz.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Dan is preceded in death by his daughter, Laurie L. Kretz.
Friends may call from 10:30 AM until time of services at 11:00 AM Monday, February 26, 2018 at Crossroads Church of God with Rev. Brian Robertson officiating. Private entombment will be held at Gethsemani Cemetery at a later time. Memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads Church of God. Ed and family, we are sad we won't be able to be there for Dan's memorial service on Monday. Tim and Dan shared a lot of good memories, and I enjoyed getting to know him, too. You and your family have been in our prayers.
