BELLE CENTER -- David L. Leiter, 88, of Belle Center, OH, passed away Thursday, May 27, 2022, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima, OH.
David was born on April 14, 1934, in Findlay, OH, a son of the late Charles and Dorothy Baldwin Leiter. He married Linda Kay Phillips on December 30, 1956, at her parent's home and she preceded him in death on February 26, 2016. He is also preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Forsythe, and a sister, Virginia Loy.
Dave is survived by four children, Cindy (Bob) Richter of Lakeview, OH, Allen (Deb) Leiter and Jeff (Dina) Leiter, both of Belle Center, and Bob Leiter of Russells Point, OH, 15 grandchildren, Carl (Moriah) Richter, D'Anne (Lauren Martel) Braun, Jason Richter, Bret Brown, Brenda (Brian) Moots Holder, Amy (Ward) Cartwright, Mollie (Preston) Rogan, Michael (Jamie) Leiter, Kyle (Kylie) Leiter, Carly (Tyler) Northeim, Cory Leiter, Lindsee (Justin) Adams, Ryan Ridge, Colin (Taylor) Ridge, and Dylan (Stephanie) Ridge, 21 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Dave was a 1952 graduate of Arlington High School. He had a strong work ethic with a career that included working for ODOT, Belle Center Creamery, Ray Bell Construction, Jim Redman Farms, and retired from Rockwell International. He also farmed and operated his mowing business for many decades. Dave was a member of the Belle Center United Methodist Church where he served on the board. Dave was extremely community-minded and loved Indian Lake. He was a former Richland Township Trustee serving two terms. He served on the Logan County Senior Citizens Board, was a member of Indian Lake Watershed Project, Re-ACT, and Indian Lake Development Corporation where he was a past president. Dave enjoyed socializing, taking trips with Senior groups, and going to casinos. Dave's greatest joy was his family, spending time with them on annual camping trips or boating on Indian Lake and watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren's activities.
Reverend Bryan Meadows will begin funeral services at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 2, 2022, at Belle Center United Methodist Church, 202 E. Main St., Belle Center. Visitation is Wednesday, June 1st from 2-8 pm, at Shoffstall Funeral Home, 205 S. Main St, Lakeview, and Thursday, one hour prior to services at the church. Burial is in Fairview Cemetery, Belle Center.
Memorial contribution may be given in his memory to ILDC Fox Island Maintenance Fund or Belle Center United Methodist Church Maintenance Fund.
