Douglas Parent Obituary

FINDLAY -- Douglas D. "Doug" Parent, 65, of Findlay, formerly of Lima passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at his residence in Findlay. He was born on May 22, 1957 in Lima to David L. Parent, who preceded him in death and Rosemary (Falk) Parent, who survives in Elida. On December 28, 2017, he married Livier "Bebe" Velasquez, who survives in Findlay.

Doug was a 1975 graduate of Elida High School and then attended Fayetteville State University. He joined the US Army and proudly served his country and obtained the rank of Sergeant. He had worked in the parts department at Tom Ahl, before taking a job at Ada Technologies, where he worked for 15 years before retiring in May of this year. He could often be seen at Lulu's or Smokin' Buckeye Barbeque in Findlay.

He enjoyed golfing, bowling, collecting baseball cards and watching live music and WWE pay-per-views with his buddy, Jon. Doug had a passion for high school football and coached through the years at Bath, Columbus Grove, where he was a part of the 2003 State Championship team, Allen East and Lima Central Catholic. Following his coaching career, he went to work as a broadcaster at WOSN for local sporting events. He was described by a co-worker as "a kind, soft spoken guy with a heart for people, especially local athletes. It didn't matter what sport he threw his headset on for, he always did it with a smile and a subtle, calm enthusiasm".

Above all else Doug loved to attend his grandkids sporting events and seldom missed any of them. He will be sadly missed by his family, especially for his "wocka, wocka's".

Surviving are his wife Bebe Parent of Findlay; his children David (Laurie) Parent of Lima, Charisse (John "Rick") Hittle of Lima, Khrystal (Kirk) Wagner of Dunkirk and Jaime (Steve) Pierce of Findlay; his grandchildren Jeremy, Gari and Payton Parent, Karli and Ashton Szabados, Libberty and Hunter Hittle, Kailey and Karley Wagner, Mila and Reese Pierce; his four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother, Rosemary Parent of Elida; his siblings Gregory (Denise) Parent of Belle Center, Tobin Parent of Anchorage, AL, Joseph (Misty) Parent of Lima, Michael (Jennifer) Parent of Elida, Stephanie Miller of Toledo and Denise (Douglas) Norton of Union, OH.

He was preceded in death by his father David L. Parent, one grandchild and one great-grandchild and his close friend and radio sidekick Aaron Matthews.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 Pm to 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, July 14, 2022 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL.

Memorial services will be held at 7:00 PM following the visitation at the funeral home. Following the memorial service at the funeral home, military honors will be conducted by active duty members of the US Army and VFW Post 1275.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the family.
