GERALD MICHAEL
LIMA — Gerald B. "Gerry" Michael, 91, of Lima passed away at 4:40 PM on Thursday, April 20, 2017 in the St. Rita's Hospice Inpatient Unit.
He was born on March 15, 1926, in Lima to Bernard and Hazel Fern (Waltermire) Michael, who both preceded him in death. He was married to Joan Evans, who preceded him in death in June of 1954. On September 19, 1958, he married Betty Miller-Delaney, who preceded him in death on December 3, 2008.
Gerry worked at Nickel Plate Road, Artkraft Manufacturing and the tank depot before joining the Army and serving the Army Corps of Engineers in the South Pacific during World War II. After the war he spent most of his working days in the automotive business. He was a member of the DAV, the American Legion Post 96, Lima and a life member of the Elks Lodge #54, Lima. He also was a member of St. Gerard Catholic Church. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and playing tennis. Gerry also loved to play cards with his brothers.
Surviving are his son William R. (Darla Sue Kuck) Michael of Cincinnati; his step-daughter Marsha A. Delaney of New Richmond, OH; his special friend Betty Shimp of Lima; his brothers Robert (Sara Jane) Michael and Carroll "Mike" (Rowena) Michael, both of Lima; his grandchildren Anthony (Lucia) Buehler, Elizabeth Beineke, Marissa Michael and Allison (Brian) Phelps; his great-grandchildren Walker, Delaney and Brayden Buehler, Jack and Elissa Beineke, Caroline and Eva Apanius, Madden, Meran, Mason and Hawkins Phelps; many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandson Matthew Buehler; his brothers Joseph, Charles, Raymond, Gilbert and David; his sisters Rosemary, LaDonna and Angela.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM on Monday, April 24, 2017 at St. Gerard Catholic Church, with Father Jim Szobonya officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church on Monday for one hour prior to the mass from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM.
Entombment will follow at the Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum, where military services will be conducted by VFW Post 1275 and member of the US Army.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Matthew Buehler Memorial Scholarship Fund at U.S. Bank, 7350 Beechmont Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45230.
Arrangements have been entrusted to CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL.

Condolences to the family. Gerry and my Grandpa were in the same area in WWII and he taught me a lot about it. I will miss playing Words with Friends with him although he usually won!
