CRIDERSVILLE -- Larry Gene Hefner, 87 of Cridersville, passed away August 17, 2024, at his home, into the loving arms of Jesus, with his family by his side. Larry was born September 1, 1936, in Perry Township, to Donald Hefner and Margaret (Binkley) Hefner-Jett, who preceded him in death. On May 12, 1957, he married the love of his life, Carol (Sprague) Hefner, who survives him in Cridersville.
Larry was a 1954 graduate of Lafayette Jackson High School and he worked many years at Meadow Gold Dairy, working his way up to Production Manager and retiring in 1996. He was an active member of Lafayette Congregational Christian Church where he served as a deacon and he sang in the Lafayette Easter Cantata. Larry played a major role in opening the Allen East Community Center and served on the board as well. He was an avid woodworker and, later in life, he enjoyed assembling 3-D wooden puzzles. Larry coached midget football and the junior high Harrod team. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family. Larry was the best dad and a wonderful husband who will be dearly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
In addition to his wife, Larry is survived by his children, Jeff (Lori) Hefner, Dennis (Kelly) Hefner, Kevin (Tammy) Hefner, Michele Gahman and Amy Hefner; grandchildren, Chris Gahman, Jason (Robin) Hefner, Tricia (Jon) McCutcheon, Kristen Hefner, Kyle (Alycia) Hefner, Ashley (Ben) Graham, Brittaney (Patrick) Trail, Micah (Chelsea) Hefner, Dylan Hefner, Ryan Hefner and Marissa Williams; great-grandchildren, Chase, Eliana, Marcella, Brenna, Avery, Kameron, Leo, Lincoln, Asher, Lewis, Amelia, Gideon, Emmy, Jaxson and Addison; one great-great-granddaughter on the way; siblings, Ralph (Bethany) Hefner, Diane Connor and Patsy McKee and his sisters-in-law, Sue Hefner and Roxie (Jett) Craig.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Tom Hefner, Michael (Pat) Hefner and John Jett; step-father, Vernie Jett; brothers-in-law, Dick Connor, Ron (Marge) Sprague and his sister-in-law, Janice (Vic) Metz.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services - Eastside Chapel with Rev. Charles Moeller to officiate the service. Larry was instrumental in the success and development of the Allen East Community Center and now (The Harrod Event Center). His contribution to retaining and developing the Harrod Elementary school building is often overlooked. Thanks Larry. Condolences to all Family and Friends
