Richard Lowry Obituary

UNIOPOLIS -- Richard A. Lowry, 94, of Uniopolis, OH, passed away 2:05 p.m., Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Wyngate Senior Living Center, Lima. He was born July 10, 1931, on River Rd., Union Township, Auglaize County, the son of Samual P. and D. Grace (Sellers) Lowry, who preceded him in death., Dick married Mary L. Miller, on August 24, 1958, and she preceded him in death in 2007.

He is survived a son, Doyt, of Ocala, Florida Also surviving are two sisters, Joanne (Richard) Crumrine of Lima, and Phyllis (William-dec) Brown, Elida, as well as a sister-in-law, Ellen Lowry, Cridersville.

Dick was preceded in death by two brothers, W. Francis and Loren (Buck) Lowry, and three sisters, Lois (Al) Tully, Carol(Bob) Lee and Dorothy Lowry. He was also preceded in death by a special friend, Louise Parlette.

Dick attended Cridersville, Perry, and then Shawnee High School from which he graduated in 1949. He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force as a Military Police Officer, and served four years. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and was honorably discharged in April of 1955.

Dick returned home to begin farming, not retiring until he was 82 years of age. He also worked part-time at the Wapak Producers Livestock Yards for 25 years.

Dick belonged to the Uniopolis Fire Department and EMS, and served as Fire Chief for 17 years. He was also a member of the Auglaize Emergency Management Agency, Union Township Zoning Board, Farmers Equipment Board, the Farm Bureau, Soybean Association, and Corn and Wheat Growers. He was also on the Uniopolis Historical Society Board and was instrumental in getting the museum in Uniopolis established. Dick is a former member of the Auglaize Landmark Board and the Auglaize Emergency Planning Committee.

In keeping with Dick's wishes, there are no public services planned. He will be interred at Fairmount Cemetery, next to his wife of 49 years. Memorial contributions can be made to the Uniopolis Historical Society or the Uniopolis Fire Department. The family would like to say a special thank you to all the girls at Wyngate Senior Living Center for their kindness and care shown to Dick while he resided there.

Dick was a kind and gentle soul who helped a person feel at ease on about any subject that came up. He was an honest man. You could take him at his word. RIP

What an amazing life dedicated to serving his community, caring for his family, and preserving the noble profession of farming. 94 years young, leaving this earth on the same day he entered. He will be remembered for his generosity, his tractors, and the difference he made in the small community of Uniopolis. What a legacy!!
