EMDEN, IL - Donald W. Wagner, 81, died Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at 5:09 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Ill.
He was born Feb. 19, 1932, in rural Hartsburg, Ill., a son of George and Mabel Bree Wagner. He married Betty Gail Shirley on Aug. 17, 1952, in Emden. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Donna (Bruce) Struebing of Hartsburg and Debra Wagner of Emden; one sister, Pat (Don) McCann of Lincoln; three grandchildren: Derek (Brittney) Struebing, Sarah (Bobby) Kennedy and Hannah Wagner; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Wayne Wagner, and two sisters, Bernice Rettberg and Georgia Ann Harms.
Donald was a carpenter and served in the US Army. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Emden American Legion Post 506 and Riverside Rod and Gun Club. He was a commissioner and president of the Emden Park Board for many years.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 19, 2013, at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Emden, Ill., with Rev. John Schurter officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, July 18, 2013, from 5-7 p.m. and one hour prior to service at the church. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery in rural Emden, Ill., with full military rites by Emden American Legion Post 506.
The family suggests memorials to Emden Park District for improvements to the Community House or to St. Peter's Lutheran Church.
Arrangements were entrusted to Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln, Ill.
