SYLVIA VALDEZ Obituary

Sylvia Valdez joined our Lord in His heavenly kingdom on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at the age of 79.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Cresenciano and Herminia Reyna; son, Carlos "Charlie" Felipe Valdez, Jr.; brothers, Meme (Olga) Reyna, Cresenciano (Rosa) Reyna, Juan Reyna and sister Guadalupe (Humberto) Sanchez.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband Carlos Felipe Valdez, her daughters, Joann Zepeda, Roxanne (Roel) Martinez, Melissa (Juan) Gonzalez, Elizabeth Valdez, and Patricia (Amando) Lozano; grandchildren, Cassandra (Julio) Fuentes, Kimberly, Eduardo and Arnulfo Zepeda, Roxanne (Jason), Roel "Kuno" (Martha), Richard (Amy) and Robert Martinez, Veronica (Jeffrey) Escamilla, Victoria and Valeria Buenrostro, Amanda and Amando Jesus Lozano and Inaya Cole; and 11 beloved great-grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends.

Sylvia was married to her músico, Felipe, for 57 years. Together they built a home that was inviting to not only all their family, but all their daughters lifelong friends growing up. Sylvia dedicated over 50 years of her life to being an AVON representative where she garnered her loyal clientele. It was through selling AVON that she was able to travel to some amazing places throughout the globe such as Hawaii, Puerto Rico and Alaska to name a few. Sylvia was also a member in the Elysian Social Club for 40 years where she earned her lifetime membership title and had the opportunity to sponsor all 5 daughters and 2 of her granddaughters. Through her journey with AVON and the Elysian Social Club, she met lifelong friends.

Sylvia loved to dance and listen to music. She frequently visited her favorite restaurant, Danny's, on Friday's to enjoy the live music and dance the night away. She loved to play loteria with her family and friends. Through her love of playing loteria, she coined the phrase, "My husband, my darling, my everything" any time El Músico would come out, referring to her husband, Felipe, a lifelong musician. She was an amazing cook. Her tamales and tortillas de harina were a hot commodity amongst our family and friends, always available to teach anyone willing to learn how to make her famous recipes.

As much as Sylvia loved her extra-curricular activities, she loved most of all her family. Any opportunity she had of spending time with her grandchildren or great-grandchildren, she'd take it in a heartbeat. She was funny, loving and kind to anyone who needed a helping hand. She will always be remembered by anyone whose life she touched.

The family will receive condolences on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, from 5:00 - 9:00 PM at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels, where a rosary will be offered at 7:00 PM.

The procession will depart the chapel at 8:30AM on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, to San Luis Rey Catholic Church, where a mass will take place at 9:00AM.

Rite of Committal and Internment will follow at the Cavalry Catholic Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved son, Charlie.

Pallbearers will be: Eduardo Zepeda, III., Arnulfo Zepeda, Roel "Kuno" Martinez, Richard Martinez, Robert Martinez, and Amando Jesus Lozano.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Roel Martinez, Amando Lozano, and Juan Gonzalez.
