Susan Huffman Obituary
Susan Kay (Boyce) Huffman passed away from heart disease on February 10 2025. She was a loving mother, wife, sister and friend. She was born in Lake Odessa Michigan on December 2 1959. After earning her teaching degree at Central Michigan University, she moved to California and taught for Stockton Unified for 28 years. She taught almost all the elementary grades, but enjoyed kindergarten the most. She retired in 2015 after teaching at August School for 18 years. The friends she made at August School continued to give her joy with their monthly lunches to catch up on their lives.
In 2017 she became a Docent at the San Joaquin County Museum at Mickey Grove Park. At the museum she continued teaching at the Pioneer School, worked Valley Days and Festival of Trees. Sue was elected to President of the Docent Council and was currently severing on the Board of Trustees. Christmas was Sue's favorite holiday and that enthusiasm flowed into the Festival of Trees where Sue and friend Sharon were the Tin Punch ladies. Her work at the museum was recognized with their Golden Acorn Award.
In 1990 Sue's friend Lisa set her up on a blind date with what she described as a nice guy but poorly dressed cowboy, Mike Huffman. Lisa was wrong he wasn't a cowboy, The relationship resulted in 28 years of marriage and a son Ryan. Sue was extremely proud of her son Ryan who graduated from Central Michigan, and in 2023 married a Michigan girl and teacher Michaela Strand.
Being a proud Michigan girl, Sue cheered for the Lions and Tigers during the teams good and bad years. Every year she would return to Michigan to visit family and friends, taking Ryan and Mike along so her parents, sister Kathy's family and the endless number of cousins would be part of their lives.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents Calyton and Letah Boyce. She is survived by her husband Michael Huffman, son Ryan and Michaela (Strand), sister Kathy and Rick Forman, nephews Jeff Forman, Greg (his wife Erin) and now Amelia Forman.
Sue's Celebration of Life will be June 7th at the San Joaquin County Museum at Mickey Grove, the time is to be determined.
