Diane Horner

Mamaroneck - Diane Horner (nee Spinale) of Mamaroneck, died December 3 at White Plains Hospital. She was 77. Born August 26, 1943 in Boston, MA to Marion and James Spinale.

Diane attended Tufts U. and later graduated from the College of New Rochelle. She married her high school sweetheart, Philip. They moved to Mamaroneck 50 years ago where they raised their four children. Diane was an activist in every respect. She experienced life with passion. She served on the Rye Neck School Board. She helped start and worked for many organizations; L.M. Food Pantry, KEEPS, the Hispanic Resource Center and the Washingtonville Housing Alliance and many others. She was politically active all her life. With her gone, social justice protestors will have one less person standing with them. She had many interests. Big East Basketball and the Red Sox are losing one of their biggest fans. She loved movies, theater and art museums. Diane was proud of her Italian American heritage. Trips to Italy were high points in her life. She was a great traveler both foreign and domestic and loved talking to local people who were open to her enthusiasm. She loved nature and animals. One of her most cherished places was Oakland Beach so close to home. Diane is survived by her loving husband, Phil and daughters Laura, Kathleen (grand daughter Maddie), Lynn Kolb (Matt) and her son Matthew.

She was predeceased by her brother James of Arlington, MA. She was an important person to her nieces, nephews and many cousins. Diane was loved and will be missed. Family will gather on Monday 9:30am - 10:030am at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 11am at St. Vito's Church, Mamaroneck. Committal will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to Larchmont Mamaroneck Hunger Task Force or the Mamaroneck Community Resource Center. I met Diane only once, years ago, through her daughter Laura. She struck me as a strong woman, with a zest for life. I know that she and her husband raised remarkable children. I am so very sorry for her family's loss.
