Franklin Vanderbilt Obituary

Vanderbilt, Franklin, Jr.

Franklin Vanderbilt, Jr., passed away peacefully in his home on November 12, 2013. He was born in Jersey City on March 6, 1922. He attended Roosevelt High School and graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy in 1939, where he was a member of their long distance running team. After two years at Princeton, his studies were interrupted by his enlistment and training at both the University of Michigan and at Stanford to serve as a Japanese translator in the United States Army. Following his return from service, he finished his work at Princeton, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History, which remained an interest throughout his life. He then spent eight years in India as a regional director for what would become Standard Oil. Once back in New York, he began his work as an investment analyst with J. P. Morgan and later as a private investor. As all who knew him will attest, he was an avid, amateur historian and a superb storyteller. Frank's family would like to thank Marian Keene for her remarkable and devoted service, caring, and kindness over the course of seventeen years. It made an incalculable contribution to his life. The service will begin at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at the Fred H. McGrath & Son, Funeral Home, 20 Cedar St., and will be followed by a reception at J. C. Fogarty's, 60 Kraft Ave., both in Bronxville. Donations may be given to Jansen Hospice and Palliative Care, 670 White Plains Rd., Suite 213, Scarsdale, NY 10583.
