Mary Cirelli Obituary
*Sister Mary Cirelli, OP, (formerly Sr. Maria Eudes) a member of the Sisters of St. Dominic of Blauvelt, New York for the past 47 years, died on August 7, 2002 in Marian Woods Convent, Hartsdale, New York. Sister was 73 years of age. *Sister Mary was born to Anthony Cirelli and Mary Petterrucci Cirelli on August 19, 1928 in Providence, Rhode Island. She entered the Sisters of St. Dominic on September 8, 1954 from the parish of St. Teresa, Providence, Rhode Island. Sr. Mary received the Dominican Habit on September 8, 1955, professed her vows on September 8, 1956 and her perpetual vows on September 8, 1965. *Sister Mary's many years of active ministry were devoted to the education of youth on elementary level and High School Level. Sister taught in the following schools: St. Nicholas of Tolentine School, Bronx, New York, 1959-1965; St. Columbia School, Hopewell Junction, New York, 1965-1969; St. Peter School, Liberty, New York, 1969-1971; Father Lopez High School, Daytona, Florida, 1973-1974. *Sister served on the religious education staff in Morgantown, Virginia, 1971-1973 and in Blessed Trinity Parish, Ocala, Florida, 1983-1986. *Sister also served as Director of Religious Education in the following parishes: St. Paul, Daytona Beach, Florida, 1974-1977; St. Margaret, Little Ferry, New Jersey, 1977-1983 and Immasculate Conception Parish, Norwood, New Jersey, 1986-1992. *Sister Mary served in supportive services at St. Dominic's Convent, 1992-1996 and as Business Manager in the convent gift shop, 1996-2002. Sister resided in Marian Woods Convent until her death. *In addition to her religious community, Sr. Mary is survived by her twin sister, Sr. Vincent Cirelli of the Blauvelt Congregation, her sister Flora Papa, of Warwick, Rhode Island, her brothers Vincent of Providence, Rhode Island, John of Prescott, Arizona and several nieces and nephews. *Sister Mary held a BS in Education from Dominican College, Blauvelt, New York and the MS in Religious Education from LaSalle University, Pennsylvania. *RELATIVES AND FRIENDS MAY ATTEND SERVICES AT: St. Dominic's Convent, 496 Western Highway, Blauvelt, New York *The wake is being held Friday, August 9, 2002 from 2-8 PM. Evening Prayer will take place Friday at 6:30 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, August 10, 2002 at 10:30 AM. Burial will immediately follow in St. Dominic Cemetery. Arrangements have been made by Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home, New City, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of St. Dominic of Blauvelt, NY.
