Michael Quinn Obituary

Michael J. Quinn

AGE: 53 • West Nyack, NY

Michael J. Quinn, 53 of West Nyack NY died peacefully and finally free of pain at the Joe Raso Hospice House surrounded by his loving family on April 2, 2017 after a long metabolic illness that was exacerbated by his work at Ground Zero. Michael was born in New York City to James and Noreen Quinn who later moved to Rockland County, NY to raise their family.

Michael was a proud Gold Card carrying member of Local Union #3 IBEW and graduate of St. Catharine's School, Tappan Zee High School, and Empire State College. Michael was also a gifted singer, songwriter and musician that led the band Boys in The Attic who routinely rocked the house back in the day.

In 1991 he married his soulmate Helen (Baer) Quinn of Blauvelt, NY. Together they had two exquisite daughters Jules and Sammy, also of West Nyack NY. His perseverance and strength through his prolonged illness was a testament to his fierce love for his three girls.

He also leaves behind his mother Noreen (Heneghan) Quinn and father James Quinn, three loving sisters, Annmarie (Quinn) & Ken Hallock, Mary (Quinn) & Frank Shine, Barbara (Quinn) and the late Lenny Sullivan and their beautiful families, devoted Goddaughter Tara Sullivan, mother in law Anne (Murphy) Baer, all the Baer brothers and sisters, in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins on both sides, and multitudes of amazing friends.

Michael was a larger than life personality who thrived on the love of his family and friends and the spiritual connections and bonds developed through music making. He had the innate ability to light up a room and touched the lives of so many. He will be forever loved.

In lieu of flowers, the family humbly requests donations to United Hospice of Rockland Joe Raso House in New City, NY. The compassion extended by the loving nurses toward our family in Michael's final hours was appreciated beyond measure; they were truly angels of mercy.

Visiting hours will be Thursday, April 6 from 01:00 pm to 9:00pm at Joseph W. Sorce F.H. Inc.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, April 7 at St. Catharine's Of Alexandria Church, 523 Western Highway, Blauvelt, NY.

Michael was one of the first journeymen I had the pleasure to work with. He taught me so much, not just about the trade, but about being a hard working good union member. He always spoke his mind and was well respected for that. Definitely one of the finest human beings that graced my life with his presence. I'm proud to call him my friend

Ah, Quinny we hardly knew ye. Everything they're saying about you is spot on. You kept everyone on their toes, always giving your all and expecting the same in return. A true "working class hero". You will be remembered always.

On the 50th anniversary of Sgt. Peppers, I am reminded of Michael's eidetic memory of the lyrics therein contained and the infinite joy and amazement I derived as he would gladly sing them upon request. A brother from another mother. - W. Scott McWade

I always admired Mike for his sometimes brutal honesty. I was in awe of how he touched the lives of so many, not just with his voice and beautiful lyrics but by the person he was. I admired his courage in the face of that debilitating disease that tried to destroy his passion for music by taking the guitar from him. He didn't let it. A unique, beautiful soul. May God bless you, Mike.
