Rene Girod Obituary

Girod, Rene Marcel

Rene Marcel Girod, 89, of Nyack, New York, died October 20, 2014. Born in Pontenet, Switzerland on April 9, 1925 to Georgette and Marcel Girod. Predeceased by his sister Yvonne, Rene is survived by his devoted wife Edith Reggiardo Girod; daughters Carole Miller (Stuart); Nicole Rendler (Henry) from his first marriage to Grazia Anghinoni of Lugano, Switzerland; stepson Marcelo Reggiardo (Vanessa); and stepdaughter Maria Gabriela Duda (Gary); grandchildren Henry and William Rendler; Nicolas, Luca and Marco Reggiardo; and Benjamin, Emilia and John Duda.

Rene graduated from l' Ecole d'Horlogerie de Geneve, Switzerland and worked for Rolex Watch for over 40 years, beginning as a watchmaker and retiring as Executive Vice President of Rolex Watch, USA. He was a long standing member of the Tarrytown Boat Club and Fort Comfort Yacht Club. He and Edith enjoyed boating extensively along the Hudson River and were most proud of completing "The Great Loop" a 6,000 mile boating adventure that took them through nearly half of the U.S. After marrying Edith, Rene found a second home in Punta del Este, Uruguay and managed to enjoy summer year round. He maintained his love for travel throughout his life, returning from his most recent trip a mere month ago. Rene made friends wherever he went and touched the lives of all who knew him.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00AM on Saturday November 15th, 2014 at Saint Ann's Church, 16 Jefferson Street, Nyack, New York. In lieu of flowers, please send any donations to Reaching U (www.reachingu.org).

He was a man of great talent, compassion and grace. He will be missed but never forgotten.

We shall always remember Rene as a bon vivant who never failed to bring a smile to our faces with his humor and social graces. His elegance and savoir-faire was impressive. We were honored to be accepted among his many friends. Wishing his family and especially Edith our warmest wishes in remembering this very dear human being.

Who can forget his wonderful smile and sweet composure? The years go by but his memory lives on in our hearts. We pray for Edith and family as they feel his presence still. May this memorial to him bring us together in celebrating his life.

A gentleman of true elegance and grace -- always a kind word and generous heart. Our heart goes out to his loved ones, especially Edith. The caregiver suffers greatest from the loss. May God be with her in the difficult days to come.

Condolences to the family. I remember fondly the conversations my Dad and brother and I would have at lunch at the Hudson House years ago with he and his wife. A class act! Dale Lydecker
