Stephen Anderson Obituary

Anderson, Stephen M.

Stephen M. Anderson, son of Peter and Jeannette Anderson Feeney, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2015, after a 2-year battle with a rare form of cancer. Mr. Anderson was raised in Stony Point, NY, and moved to Virginia Beach in 1992 as a manager with Volvo Penta when it relocated to the area; he graduated cum laude from ODU, majoring in Finance and Information Technology. In 1996, he married the love of his life, Kristine Hartman, and celebrated with those he loved at a memorable reception at the Old Cavalier Hotel in Virginia Beach. In 2000, along with President Hank Luhring, he co-founded Issue Trak, a software company based in VA Beach, which has been named to INC 500's list as one of the fastest-growing privately-held companies in the US, and one of the "Best Places to Work" in the area for the past 4 years. In 2003, his long-awaited child, and greatest accomplishment, "Will" arrived, and Steve often said this made his life complete. Mr. Anderson was of predominantly Irish heritage, to which many attributed his passion for music, dance, reading, and writing. He loved all people, in particular his extended family and circle of friends known as the "buddies". And he was always eager to lend a helping hand in any endeavor. He enjoyed training in the martial arts, and was proud to count among his training partners many first responders, military, and special forces personnel as his friends and sparring partners. Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife Kristine Hartman Anderson, his son James William, and his loyal golden retriever, Marin. He is also survived by his siblings: Nancy of Waukesha, Wisconsin; Mary & Tim Tonjes of Callicoon, NY, James of Stony Point, NY; Jeannine Anderson Aldridge of Pomona, NY; David of Garnerville, NY, as well as nephews Ben, Luke & Tim Tonjes of Callicoon, NY; and James Peter and Andrew Aldridge of Pomona; step-siblings Frances and James Feeney Jr. of Aptos, California, and step-father James Feeney of Santa Cruz, CA; his Mother-in-Law, Anne Hartman of Port Orange, FL; his Brother-in-Law & family, Kevin & Cindy Hartman and Diego Collado Hartman of Reno, NV, and his many cousins: the Faust family of Boyertown, PA, the Conrad Huebner and Thomas Lawless families of Haverstraw, NY; the Cotton family of New Windsor, NY and the Leary family of Wallkill, NY.

A memorial visitation will be held at T.J. McGowan Sons Funeral Home, Garnerville, on Wednesday February 4, and on Thursday, February 5, 2015 from 4-7pm, with a memorial mass on Friday, February 6 at 10am at St. Peter's Church in Haverstraw. The family is forever grateful for your overwhelming kindness, compassion, and generosity. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to EVMS Radiation Oncology, c/o Dr. Mark Sinese, 600 Gresham Drive Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Norfolk, Virginia 23507.

Steven was another big brother to me. He always made me laugh especially when he used extreme vocabulary words to explain simple day to day functions like using the bathroom. I admired him and loved growing up with him in my life. We even sparred a bit.

This past April When I heard Stephen was ill I contacted him to offer support. His response was generous. Really more about making me feel good rather than focusing on his illness. He made note of a kind high school gesture of mine (which I did not recall) and said it meant alot to him and was a teachable moment that he intended to share with his son. Mr. Anderson was a class act through and through. My condolences to his family.
