Rick was a true Cabrillo High School icon. Teacher, coach, and mentor to hundreds, he approached all situations with consideration and passion. As a rookie teacher, I always appreciated Rick's suggestions and advice...and considerable sense of humor. My condolences to the family. Rick will be remembered fondly, and as others have stated, he is a true legacy to his craft.

Just happened to visit the Lompoc Record web page and saw this. Very sad news for me. Mr. Schmidt was probably my favorite teacher at Cabrillo, as I was fortunate enough to be on the school´s radio station, Radio of Cabrillo. He will never be forgotten.
