Mary Converse Obituary

Mary Mason Converse passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 8 in North Andover, Massachusetts. Molly was born June 14, 1938 in Richmond, Virginia, to the late Sam A. Mason II and Venita Fowler Mason.

Molly was a graduate of The Madeira School and Smith College. She began her career in communications with the Richmond chapter of the American Red Cross, and then as an editor and administrator for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. Molly served as the Public Information Officer for Loudoun County Public Schools for twenty-one years, retiring in 2000.

A 45-year resident of Leesburg, Molly was active in the Loudoun County community; she was a Virginia Extension Master Gardener and a volunteer with Loudoun Volunteer Caregivers. Molly was an avid sailor and longtime member of the West River Sailing Club in Galesville, Maryland. She and her husband Mel sailed their Allied Seabreeze, "Whim," throughout the Chesapeake Bay, and frequently along the Eastern Seaboard, from the Maine Coast through the Intracoastal Waterway to Florida. Molly was also an enthusiastic traveler and an accomplished tennis player.

Molly's family includes her late husband Melville Branch Converse; daughter Mary Tabb Converse (Brian Schulz) of Wellesley, MA; sisters Eliza Mason Webster of Kennebunkport, ME, and the late Lucy Mason Weaver; and two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Robert Schulz.
