Eleanor S. Buhl

Glenview - Eleanor S. Buhl of Glenview, KY, passed away on Monday, October 1, at the University of Louisville Hospital with family at her side. She was an active member of Broadway Baptist Church in Louisville where she served as a deacon along with other leadership roles including W.M. U., Sunday school, and various committees. She was a beloved member of her family and community and will be missed by all.

Eleanor was a graduate of Cumberland College, attended the University of Tennessee, and received her B.A. in Education at Union College in Barbourville, KY. She began her teaching career at Williamsburg Ind. School in Williamsburg, KY. In 1968 she moved to Louisville, KY with her husband, and continued teaching in the Jefferson Co. School District until her retirement. Eleanor served her community in several organizations including The Woman's Club of Louisville, P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization), and Delta Kappa Gamma.

Eleanor is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Charles E. Buhl, Jr.; her mother, Ethel Bayless Hacker; grandparents, John & Ethel Combs Bayless. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Jo Florence Cordell (Otis); nephews: Samuel Cordell (Glenna) and Joseph Cordell (Yvonne). Great nieces: Jamie Caldwell (Andrew), Kelly Young (Isaac), Caroline Cordell, and Elizabeth Cordell. Great great nephews: Jacob Taylor, Alston Caldwell, Jaron Taylor, and one great-great niece, Jasmine Young. She is also survived by her aunt, Dorothy Schneider.

A celebration of Eleanor's life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 6, at Broadway Baptist Church, 4000 Brownsboro Rd., Louisville, KY, with private interment at Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-6 pm Friday, October 5, at Pearson's Funeral Home, 149 Breckenridge Lane, Louisville, KY.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Broadway Baptist Church.
