Mary Staashelm Obituary
Staashelm, Mary Helen (Kutter),
92 years of age went home to our heavenly father Monday, December 25, 2017. Mary Helen was a New Albany native and retired as the first nurse anesthetist in the Louisville area. She graduated from Ferdinand Academy, St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing, and Anesthesia School at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. Mary Helen was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, a Master bridge player winning several regional tournaments in Indianapolis and Chicago, a dedicated volunteer including conducting services at nursing homes and a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Olyne Kutter; brothers, John Kutter and Louis Kutter.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Paul Sr.; sons, Paul, Jr. (Kim), Gary (JoAnn), William (Jennifer), James (Teresa); grandson, Jacob.
Visitation will be 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm Thursday at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring Street, New Albany, Indiana. Her Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Friday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 1752 Scheller Lane, New Albany, Indiana with burial to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in New Albany, Indiana.
Expressions of sympathy may go to St. Vincent DePaul Society at OLPH or OLPH Church.
