Tom Divis
November 1, 2016
I just found out about Sam. My name is Tom Divis from St. Louis Missouri. Sam used to coach myself and another friend of mine Matthew Weiss. Both of us went to Lindenwood University in St. Charles. Sam volunteered his time to coach us in the shot put and discus throws. What an exceptional athlete and coach. He was so funny with his stories he used to tell us at practice. We had so much fun with Sam. We went to see him one time in Clayton at Morgan Stanley after we graduated in 2001. What a great individual, smart, funny, caring and loving. He will be greatly missed and we still talk about him. To the family of Sam and everyone who has been encounter with him may we remember the good times and generiousity he brought to us.

A couple of weeks have passed-Al and I are still thinking of Sam with heavy hearts and miss him. I'm sure we share these feelings with so many as Sam was such a special person and touched many lives. The world has lost a warm, funny, caring, trustworthy, intelligent, reputable, and generally all-around great guy. I guess we just hold tight to the memories and be thankful for the time he was a part of our lives. We'll keep his family and loved ones in our prayers.

Joy, Sam, Evan, Kelly and Joey,
Words are so difficult to find at such a heartbreaking time. Be at peace just as Sam is now. Let him be your personal guardian angel. Remember there will be times when you can sense his presence as his spirit will always remain with you. May God hold him in the palm of His great hands and show him the way to his heavenly reward. As others have said, God took him at his greatest time of need. He is here to heal you as well in time. Allow your family and friends to support you while you remember and heal. We all love you!

Joy, Sam, Kelly, Joe, Evan and Mona,
Words can not express the depth of pain one feels when a loved one dies.
While we say the words "He was taken too soon," we must remember that he was taken in God's time. And as we continue to grieve, we too must remember that we will all be reunited in Heaven.
Sam was a great father, son, brother and friend. He made a difference in the lives of everyone he knew. We should all take a lesson from Sam's life and go forward in making a difference in the lives of others.
May God bless the Sumner, Gollar and -Desmond families.
Love to you all,
Janet

Joy, Sam, Kelly and Evan, you all have our deepest empathy and prayers. Evan, you will make it OK. Jim's Mom died when she was 41 and he was 9. Just take care of your Mom, Grandma Joy and Aunt Kelly. Especially, take care of them when they have extra money laying around needing to be spent on college tuition.
It was some of Sammy's advice on investments that helped pay for Willy's and Tess's education. It was Sam and Sammy that inspired Tess to stick with high school shot and discuss. We think the world of your family and appreciate the hopes and inspiration that your family has provided our family.
Our prayers..Cathy, Tess, Willy and Jim

Dearest Sam, Joy and Kelly,
Dottie and I are shocked and saddened at your terrible loss. We fail to understand God's plan when he calls such a noble one to his side so soon, and our hearts are with you in this cruel trial of the human spirit.
Truly your friends Joe and Dottie.

Sam, Joy, Kelly, and beloved family members,
I am so sorry for your loss and truly pray for God's grace and comfort during this difficult time. I have seen Sam very sparingly in the past several years, but whenever our paths did cross he always was quick to speak and the time and years melted away. He was a great person and a tremendous spirit and will be dearly missed by all. God Bless.

I've worked with Sam for his 15 years here & it's been an honor. He & I share the same passion for the outdoors so we frequently shared stories of our Deer hunts & adventures. If you ever heard him tell a story about one of his hunts --- you would see him Light up & always include the appropriate sound effects of the deer tip-toeing by his stand in the dark! His stories of his hunts with his son are priceless --- he is priceless! All our prayers are with you & your family. Greg & Traci Bennett

Dear Ones,
Sam, as we had often discussed, thank you again for our true brotherly friendship and becoming a most beloved spirit to Debbie and I.
Thank you for all the countless laughs, and for sharing a special vest for life, living abundantly, and then taking time to pass on such wisdom to others. You truly became a most treasured friend, and a light of all that loved you or who had the blessing of knowing you in this life.
…For a number of years we worked, and toiled so very hard, and perhaps sacrificed so much in time, sweat, and treasure - in part to develop the awesome God given athletic and academic gifts you were given… and of which the results and record shows you absolutely achieved. And during those many years of dedication, we were witnesses that you had an awesome level of will power inside to not only become a Champion, but a Championship person, and became a true delight and a light of all your family and friends… what priceless and timeless memories we all shared...
We would not change one thing as it was God's magnificent grace that brought us together. Your place in our hearts cannot be healed, and we will miss you for the rest of our days; our only hope and comfort coming from the truth and promise in our faith that we will see you again.
