He was born in Lowell on Jan. 24, 1968, son of William Chartier Sr. of Windsor, and Judith R. (Treadwell) Chartier, who died earlier this year. He was raised in Chelmsford, grew up in the East Chelmsford section of town, and graduated from Chelmsford High School.
Mr. Chartier was an auto body technician for many years in Greater Lowell. He worked at Bob Muldoon's in Lowell for several years, and then was a longtime mechanic at 1400 Motors in Lowell. For the past three years, Mr. Chartier continued his carerer as an auto body technician at Tom's Auto Service in Dracut.
Mr. Chartier made his home in Dracut and Lowell until July, when he bought a home in Derry to raise his young family. He enjoyed dirt-bike riding with his family, muscle cars and auto shows.
In addition to his wife and father, he is survived by three children, Gregory M. Chartier Jr., Nikolas B. Chartier, and Brittany P. Chartier; four brothers, William "Billy" Chartier and his wife Mazzie of Billerica's Pinehurst section, Joseph "Joey" Chartier and his wife Dottie, residing in New Hampshire, Richie Chartier and his wife Sharon of Lowell and Stephen Chartier and his wife Robin of Pelham.
He also leaves his sister, Judy Chartier, who police say has been missing since her disappearnce in June 1982.
Other survivors include his mother-in-law, Geraldine Pizzano of Lowell; his father-in-law, Thomas Pizzano of New York; a sister-in-law, Krystle Pizzano of Lowell; a brother-in-law, Richie Macklin and his fiancee Cheryl Chartier of Worcester; also many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of late Michael Chartier.
