Daniel Roger "Danny" Knoll

1946 - 2023

Daniel "Danny" Roger Knoll, 77, of Michigan City passed away peacefully at 6:05 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2023, at his home.

He was born April 13, 1946, in Michigan City to Andrew and Helen (Lasky) Knoll.

On April 25, 1970, he married the love of his life of 53 years, Deanna Jean Voss, who preceded him in death on July 13, 2023.

Danny joined the Army after graduating from Elston High School in 1966, and served until 1969. He continued to honor his country by not only being a member of the American Legion Post 37, but was also a member of the Honor Guard. He showed his dedication by being present at many veteran military funerals for his fallen comrades.

Danny was a proud Army veteran, and he was also a member of The Society of Forty Men and Eight Horses, more commonly known as the Forty and Eight club, an independent, invitation only, honor society of American veterans and service members. He also worked as a control room operator at Bethlehem Steel for 33 years.

Danny enjoyed watching wrestling and football. He also loved hunting, fishing, and playing rummy and poker. Above all he loved his family, and thought the world of his grandkids and cherished the time he spent with them.

Danny is survived by his two daughters, Debbie Pace and Devon (Brett Kurpiel) Knoll; sisters, Norma Gushrowski and Alberta "Bert" Clouse; grandchildren, Jacob Pace and Kailyn Hagan; many nieces and nephews; and also, many friends.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Charles "Chuck" Knoll, Harold "Archie" Knoll, Elizabeth "Betty" Pagels, Marian Ackerman, Louis Knoll, Ramona "Monie" Musgrave and Helen Francis.

A funeral celebrating his life will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, 2023, at Lakeview Funeral Home & Crematory, 247 W. Johnson Rd., La Porte, 219-362-3100. Visitation and viewing will be from 10 a.m. until time of service Monday at the funeral home.
