Following a valiant fight with cancer, David Randall Lipscomb, affectionately known as Jabbo, passed away on July 18, 2024, at his home in Kingsford Heights, Indiana. He was 70 years old.
Jabbo was the youngest son of June and Pat Lipscomb, born on March 4, 1954. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kingsford Heights where he was baptized under the leadership of Rev. Patrick Reed in 2013.
David was a graduate of La Porte High School's class of 1972. He became a proud United States Marine, enlisting in the Marine Corps in 1975 until 1979. While enlisted, he was trained as a diesel mechanic. After returning home David was employed at several local factories before finding his passion for auto detailing. He took great pride in making a car look good! He spent most of his career working for Jackson's Car Wash and later La Porte Chrysler before retiring.
In the true fashion of a kid from Dodge, Jabbo was an avid baseball/softball player. Starting out as bat boy for his dad and the Kingsford Heights Blue Jays to playing for teams in La Porte and Michigan City such as Al & Mary's, the B & W Stars, and the Eastside Players.
David had an infectious personality, quick wit, and loved to tell a good joke or funny story. He loved listening to music, cheering on the Dodgers and Steelers and watching shoot-em ups.
He was welcomed into eternity by his dear mother, Mattie Lipscomb; and his grandson, LaReal Bonds Jr.
He is survived by his father, James Lipscomb of Kingsford Heights; his daughters, Felicia (Gentry) and Jasmine (Jeff) Lipscomb, both of Michigan City, Indiana; he will be lovingly remembered by Joan Davis, his devoted partner of 15 years; grandchildren, Laila, Jahlil, Autumn, Kaydance, Amiyah, Marsean and Ka'Mani Maholmes, and one great-grandson, LaReal Bonds III, all of Michigan City, Indiana; siblings, Evelyn (David) Stevens of Michigan City, Indiana, Leonard Lipscomb and Pamela Parkes, both of Kingsford Heights, Indiana; and Tracy (Sean) Williams of Chesapeake, Virginia; and an abundance of nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 12 noon, First Baptist Church of Kingsford Heights, 2101 Chatfield Rd., Kingsford Heights, Indiana 46346, with Pastor James E. Lane Jr. to be Eulogist. Viewing will be 11 a.m. until time of service at the Church. Interment will be private.

I just now found out about David, we were good friends on and off The Field! I Loved Jabbo, if I didn't find him in a crowd, he would find me! My name is Stephen Penny, everyone called me JC ! I had a bunch of fun whenever I saw Jabbo, and we would definitely laugh! I played softball for years in Kingsford Heights Labor Day Tournament! Best tournament of the year anywhere close to LAPORTE for miles around barring none! I will surely miss him! I am so so sorry, if I'd have known I would most assuredly been there! I am so sorry, and he was a Great Friend and a Brother of mine! God Bless His Soul! May He be with God in His Kingdom for Eternity! In Jesus Name! Amen

I have known Jabbo/David since middle school. His dad, who is still with us, coached little league with my wife´s father, Bob Fruth. Jabbo and I played basketball together.Years ago, out of the blue, he called me. Working for his mother in law in Michigan City workin those cars up. Showed up with a 6 pack, and ever since, stayed in contact. Before COVID of course, every time Kathy and I would get to LP, we would hook up with him. Spent time in the Heights at his house and his Pops. First time late at night we were dropping him off and sitting in the front yard. Dad came out and asking questions about the red truck. Never forget that. And Dad is still alive. Maybe still playing cards. My friend would always remember my a Kathy´s birthday. And would call. Amazing. So caring. And he would always give me the updates on the guys we went to school with, basketball and otherwise. The girls too. Sorry for the loss....but we talked, he was a man of God. In good hands now. God bless you family.
