Dolores May Kuchik Hackett, age 92, of Michigan City, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2024, at Trail Creek Place in Michigan City.
Funeral Services will be held at 12 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2024, at The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington Street, Michigan City, Indiana, with Brother Shaun Gray officiating. Burial will follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Michigan City. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the funeral chapel.
She was born on Dec. 3, 1931, in Michigan City, Indiana, to the late Paul and Dorothy (Demski) Kuchik Sr. On Feb. 11, 1950, in Michigan City, Indiana, she married James W. Hackett. They spent 52 years together until his death on Feb. 18, 2002.
Dolores was a dedicated homemaker who enjoyed the simple pleasures in life; working in her yard, walking her dogs, collecting Precious Moments and following her favorite sports teams, especially the basketball teams her son, Michael, coached. Nothing brought her more joy more than spending time with her grandchildren, each of whom meant the world to her.
Dolores hosted many celebrations and holidays at her home, always making sure each person had plenty to eat and drink. She preferred to be in the background, but as the matriarch of the family, we were proud to put her in the spotlight.
Surviving are her children and grandchildren, Bill (Pam) Hackett and their daughter, Stacey and son, Rob (Emily); Larry (Susan Kay) Hackett and their son, Neil (Samantha); Nancy (Darrell) Wisser and their daughters, Amy (Dan), Jenny (Kyle), and Kelly (Steve); and Michael Hackett and his sons, Drew and Luke. Also surviving are her sister, Shirley Rybicki; and 11 adoring great-grandchildren.
Dolores was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and three brothers, Paul Kuchik, Jr., Robert Kuchik and Richard Kuchik.
Memorial contributions may be made to Dunes Hospice, 4711 Evans Ave., Valparaiso, Indiana, 46383, or St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 1506 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana, 46360.

I knew Dolores and her husband Jim from her brother Richard who was my best friend . We used to visit them often in the past years. They were the nicest and kindest people ever . After Jim passed , we would still visit Dolores who was always glad to see us . Prayers for the family .
