Robert Balka Obituary

Robert Balka, age 64, passed away on Jan. 22, 2026. He was born on Aug. 20, 1961, in Hammond, Indiana, to Edmund and Sophie (Wrobel) Balka, who have preceded him in death.

Robert is lovingly survived by his wife, Sherri (Jannite) Balka; his children, Amy (Matt) Winkoff, Alyssa Serafin, Aileen Serafin and Tom Serafin; and his cherished grandson, Wyatt. He is also survived by his brothers, Edmund (Sue) Balka and David (Ann) Balka; his sister, Janet Drozdy; and many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. He was also preceded in death by his brother, James Balka; and his sister, Suzanne Edwards.

Robert was an avid fisherman who especially loved ice fishing, finding peace and joy out on the water and on the ice. He was known for his ever-present smile and big, warm hugs. If you knew Robert, you were blessed to have received one of those big, warm hugs. He made friends wherever he went, leaving behind lasting friendships along life's journey.
