Doris Zeese Obituary

Doris June Zeese, age 95, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Jan. 4, 2026, in La Porte.

She was born on June 22, 1930, in Michigan City, Indiana, to the late John and Mabel (Dunn) Woodrick.

On Sept. 10, 1949, Doris married the love of her life, Edward Wayne Zeese, in Michigan City. Their marriage, marked by devotion, partnership and joy, spanned more than 76 wonderful years and stood as a testament to enduring love.

Doris was a proud graduate of Springfield High School in Michigan City. She began her professional career at NIPCSO, where she worked for two years as a stenographer. She later dedicated 30 years of service to Allis-Chalmers, retiring after a distinguished career that included 17 years as secretary to the controller.

A woman of many talents and interests, Doris found great pleasure in sewing her own garments, knitting, playing cards and making music on the organ. She was a gifted cook and baker, enjoyed playing golf, and cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Doris and Ed delighted in traveling together, attending the 40 and Over Dance Club, and she especially enjoyed watching Ed bowl. Her life was enriched by fellowship and faith as a devoted member of St. Paul Episcopal Church in La Porte.

Doris is survived by her loving husband, Edward Wayne Zeese; her son, Barry Zeese (Candy); her grandsons, Aaron Zeese (Melanie) and Aric Zeese (Jennifer); and her great-grandchildren, Madeleine, Remington, Ava and Ella. She is also lovingly remembered by her favorite niece, nephews, and great-nieces and -nephews and great-great-nieces and -nephews.

In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her brothers, Lester Woodrick and Gerald Woodrick.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 10, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1000 Michigan Avenue, La Porte, Indiana. A visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will immediately follow at Pine Lake Cemetery.
