Edward Allan Byers, 64, of La Porte passed away peacefully at 2:16 a.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2021, at home, surrounded by his loving family and friends after a battle with cancer from Jan. 9, 2019, to April 28, 2021.
He was born Sept. 18, 1956, in Michigan City, Indiana, to Walter E. and Mae (Payne) Byers.
Ed had just recently retired from Woodruff & Sons Construction after working his way up to superintendent. He gave them 43 years of service. Ed loved the work he did and the guys he worked with. He enjoyed golfing, vacationing, building things, working around the house and his walks with his dog, Bella.
On June 14, 1980, in Michigan City, he married the love of his life, Theresa (Westphal) Byers, who survives.
Also surviving are his beloved son, Ryan Byers of La Porte; and his precious dog, Bella; two brothers, Richard (Jeanie) Byers of Union Pier, Michigan, and Walter (Linda) Byers of La Porte; two sisters, Sue Grunow of Union Pier, Michigan, and Debbie Byers of La Porte; numerous nieces, nephews and loved ones; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and his beloved special friends, Kevin, Ronnie and Jay, who were more than family to him. You will forever be missed and in our hearts always. Your loving wife, Theresa, and son, Ryan.
Preceding in death were his parents; two sisters, Sharon Little and Rose Sample; and his infant sister, Nina Byers.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 8, 2021, at Harvest Time Church of God, 4697 W. U.S. 20, La Porte, Indiana, with Pastor Joe Shelton officiating. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until time of service Saturday at the church. Lakeview Funeral Home & Crematory, La Porte, 219-362-3100, is caring for the arrangements.

I graduated with Ed in 1974 from Rogers High School. I remember him as such a nice guy, easy-going and kind. It seems like he had a lovely life, filled with love and laughter. I am glad of that. I extend my sincere condolences to you all on the loss of this good man.
