Nira Kathryn Requarth, 85, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 15, 2026.
She was born on June 22, 1940, in Clinton, Illinois, to the late Forest and Wilma (Baker) Shumaker. Nira was raised by her stepfather, Maurice Sensenbaugh, and her mother.
Nira was a records clerk with NIPSCO for nearly 30 years. She loved music and was an accomplished flutist and pianist. She was also a master seamstress making beautiful dresses. Nira was a Christian and loved the Lord.
The family would like to extend love and gratitude to devoted friends, Jackie and Tom Wheatbrook.
On Oct. 3, 1987, Nira married Frederick Requarth, who survives, with her daughter, Julie Manfredo of Crown Point, Indiana; stepdaughters, Kimberli Harbauer of Downers Grove, Illinois, and Christina Hall of La Porte, Indiana; grandchildren, Cameron Hall, Camille Hall, Anne Harbauer, Brendan Harbauer and Makenna Harbauer; and a great-granddaughter, Tatum Hall.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 20, 2026, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana.
A Funeral Service will follow the visitation at 1 p.m. in the Funeral Home.
Burial will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to La Porte County Animal Control & The Jane Bernard Adoption Center, 2855 IN-2, La Porte, Indiana 46350.
