Charmian D. Melnick, age 88, of Michigan City, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2026, at Addison Pointe Health and Rehab in Chesterton.
Charmian was born Aug. 19, 1937, in Michigan City, Indiana, to Coy and Gladys (Natusch) Bonner, both of whom preceded her in death. On June 13, 1959, in New York City, she married Peter P. Melnick, who also precedes her.
Survivors include one daughter, Marina (Ernest) Dingler of Michigan City; two sons, Paul Melnick of Clearwater, Florida, and Coy (Beth Patrick) Melnick of Dunedin, Florida; three grandchildren, Ernest, Mary and Melissa; three great-grandchildren, Meyah, Genevieve and Benjamin; and one sister, Mardelle Reed of Phoenix, Arizona. Siblings preceding her in death are LaVonne Solomon, Coy Bonner and Duane Bonner.
Charmian retired from the La Porte County Division of Family Resources. She also had worked at Michigan City Elston Junior and Senior High Schools, as well as Walter's Hospital.
She was very active in the Altar Guild at Trinity Episcopal Church for many years. She enjoyed travel with her favorite spots being Paris and Ireland. She loved the arts and theater, but most of all, she loved her family and her many friends. She will be dearly missed.
Friends may visit with the family at Geisen-Carlisle Funeral Home, 613 Washington St., Michigan City on Thursday, Feb. 19, from 3 to 5 p.m. Funeral service will take place on Friday, Feb. 20, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church with the Rev. Dr. Hugh Page, officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
The family would like to express their thanks to the staff at Addison Pointe for the wonderful care she received; she truly loved the people there.
Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, VNA Hospice NWI or to the charity of the donor's choice.

I met Charmian through her husband Peter when he was part of my wedding.
We kept in touch through the years.
She was always very upbeat and we had wonderful conversations even after she had a stroke.
A strong woman who will be reunited with Peter for eternity.
