George Everett Adey Sr., 85, of La Porte passed away peacefully at 5:25 p.m. Sunday, May 8, 2022, at Cedarhurst of Edison Lakes, Mishawaka.
He was born Sept. 23, 1936, in Baltimore, Maryland, to George and Mildred (Pugh) Adey.
George honorably served his country in the United States Army serving from 1956 to 1957. He retired as foreman in 1988 from Bethlehem Steel. George was a lifetime member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Michigan City. He enjoyed gardening, crabbing, working in his yard and pulling the little ones around on his tractor. George loved his dogs but he especially had a love for his family including his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
On Aug. 4, 1956, in Baltimore, Maryland, he married his high school sweetheart, Patricia "Pat" Adey, who preceded him in death April 30, 2019.
Also preceding in death were his parents, George Adey and Mildred Crockett; two daughters, Paula Bailey and Renee Anderson; and one grandson, Joshua Adey.
Surviving are three children, George (Suzie) Adey Jr. of Michigan City, Mark (Elizabeth) Adey of South Bend and Becky (Keith) Gouge of Michigan City; 12 grandchildren, Angie (Mike), Kay (Todd), Amie, Rachel (Sergio), Heather, Jennifer (Sam), Jillian, Benjamin (Sara), Amber (Evan), Amaryllis, Janelle and Jacob; 17 great-grandchildren; cousin, David (Stephanie) Adey of Andover, Massachusetts; and brother-in-law, Fred Buettner of Savannah, Georgia.
A funeral celebrating his life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 12, 2022, at Lakeview Funeral Home & Crematory, 247 W. Johnson Rd., La Porte, 219-362-3100. Visitation and viewing will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2022, and from 10 a.m. until time of service Thursday, May 12, 2022, at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service in Pine Lake Cemetery, La Porte, Indiana.
