On Jan. 25, 2025, Gerald "Jerry" Paul Dekker was reunited with his beloved wife, Phyllis. He lived his life with honor, dignity, humor and love.
Gerald was born in Longmont, Colorado, on Nov. 28, 1936, to Paul and Lucille Dekker. His family relocated to Michigan City, Indiana, where he later met and married the love of his life.
He had an adventurous spirit. At 16, he fabricated his age and joined the Army. Upon discharge (and of legal age), he enlisted in the Air Force, served 24 years and retired as a SMSGT. His duty stations included Alaska, Florida, Georgia, Germany, California, Illinois, Thailand and Hawaii.
Upon retiring, he (and family) traveled across the U.S. to visit family and friends before making Caldwell, Idaho, home. Gerald worked for the Canyon County Assessor's Office, retiring again as deputy assessor in 1998.
During his lifetime, he enjoyed a good joke, a cold beer, bowling, golf, scuba diving in Hawaii, fishing, trips to Tahoe, and most of all – his family. He was a lifetime member of the Elks and even attained his private pilot's license.
Gerald is survived by his brothers, Ronald Dekker and Richard (Patricia) Dekker; daughters, Debra Fuls and Connie Evans; grandchildren, Christopher Douglass, Shannon (Brady) Kinney, Nick (Laci) Fuls, Matt (Tonya) Fuls, Hilary Fuls and Colby (Mekayla) Fuls; in addition to 18 wonderful great-grandchildren.
Our memories of Gerald bring us comfort and peace. He is truly loved and missed. Services will be held on Monday, Feb. 3, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, 624 Cleveland Blvd., Caldwell, ID 83605.
