Send FlowersJoan B. Martin, 89, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Monday, Feb. 2, 2026.
She was born on Dec. 4, 1936, in South Bend, Indiana, to the late Charles and Alta (Curl) Eger.
Joan shared a long and meaningful life with her husband, John, and together they were co-owners of Signal Transport. In addition to her work alongside John, Joan was a devoted homemaker and later retired from her position in Voter Registration at the La Porte County Courthouse.
She was a faithful member of Holy Family Parish, Sacred Heart Church, and enjoyed giving back to her community through the Lunch Buddy program at Lincoln School in La Porte. Joan was actively involved in the Republican Party, was a passionate fan of the Chicago Bears and Notre Dame football, and had a special love for her dogs.
Joan married John Martin in 1954. He preceded her in death on Dec. 29, 2006. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Karen (Buck) Levandoski of La Porte and Kathy Yancey of Fort Collins, Colorado; her grandchildren, Sam (Trisha) Glassman, Krissy (Scott) Frederick, Michael (Keisha) Yancey and Mitchel Yancey; her great-grandchildren, John and Max Frederick and Nex Yancey; her sister, Jill Smith of Morristown, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, John C. (JC) Martin; and her siblings, Mike Eger and Judy Riggs.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 23, 2026, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana.
A memorial service will follow at 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made in Joan's memory to the La Porte County Animal Control & Jane Bernard Animal Adoption Center, 2855 IN-2, La Porte, Indiana 46350.
