Gerald Gordon Corneil, 87, of DeWitt, Michigan, our loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, surrounded by his wife and children, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Independence Village in Grand Ledge, MI. He was born in Lansing, MI on November 6, 1929 to Glenn and Rena Corneil. He graduated from Lansing Eastern High School in Lansing, MI in 1947, and he served overseas, in the Navy, from 1948 to 1949, and continued to serve in the reserves for another 7 years. He married the love of his life, Elna Ilene Eaton, at Pilgrim Congregational Church in Lansing, MI, on September 2, 1950. He was always a hard worker and would help anyone who was in need. He worked as a mail carrier for 36 years and retired in 1985, and he belonged to the Retired Letter Carriers' Association. He then delivered flowers part-time for Belen's Florists for another 9 years. His wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the most important people in his life. Both Gerry and Elna attended all sporting events and awards ceremonies for their children and grandchildren. In addition, he enjoyed reading, traveling and hooking rugs. He also adored his many pets through the years. Gerry was predeceased by his father, Glen; mother, Rena; sister, Shirley Corneil Rosenbrook; father-in-law, Harold Eaton; mother-in-law, Mildred Eaton; and sister-in-law, Helen Eaton McKinsey Morgan. Gerry is survived by his wife, Elna of Grand Ledge; sons, Michael (Nancy) Corneil of Grand Rapids, MI and Jeffrey (Sandy) Corneil of Puyallup, WA; daughter, Janice Rolls of DeWitt, MI; grandchildren, Matthew (Sara) Corneil, Shawn Corneil, Michelle (Eric) Jenkinson, Joshua (Maria) Corneil, Sarah (Franklin) Maurer, Alex Rolls and Andrew Rolls; and 10 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held for immediate family only. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to the Capital Area Humane Society, 7095 West Grand River Ave., Lansing, MI 48906 in honor of Gerald Corneil. The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, DeWitt Chapel. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.grdewitt.com

Gerry has been a part of my and other Eastern High friends for many years. His sense of humor was really something - always a tease and sang "Bill Grogan's Goat with husband Dan Goff every time we got together!
