Bob Baker was a great guy/man. I graduated from Okemos high in 1957. He was our football coach with Mr Kiley. We I think won the Ingram football championship in 1956. A wonderful teacher and coach. John Bratzler

Dear Mike, Maureen and Family, Of all the memories I have from growing up in Okemos, your father is at the top of the list. He was my teacher, coach, and friend. One of the many things your father instilled in me was that the most important thing you could give another person was your word. We had not seen each other since the late 1960's but he has always been a part of my life and the gifts he and your mother gave me have been passed along to those that I love. To Coach Baker's Family - I remember his sense of humor as a student at OHS. He chased me down the hall with a bucket of water as a graduating senior in 1958 - what a blessing to have him in my life as a student. I can only imagine your life with him as head of his family.

We will always remember Bob as a great friend, great tennis player and his love for life. We have known Bob and Bethel since 1994. They were a great couple. Bob and I taught tennis for 15 years and had a lot of fun together. Bob and I also had a great time collecting and trading sport cards. He will be missed.

To Maureen, Mike and familiy,
I was but only a manager for Mr. Baker’s basketball teams. Yet he treated me with great respect (fall 1965-spring 1968). One time sitting next to him, druing a difficult moment in a big game I asked why he did not put a certain player back into this game. He could have ripped me apart for questioning him during this game. Instead he expalined what his substituition pattern was and why he was substituting players in certain situations. I learned a little about basketball and a lot about humanity that night.
In the locker room after a big game, a college coach had come to scout Byron Johnson. I was just a manager. Yet, Mr. Baker introduced me to the college coach with great respect. How can you thank a person for the respect he shows you, when you are only 17, and you haven’t started to figure out life.
A person can truly impact another person life and not even know it. Mr. Baker changed my life.
I wish I knew he had moved to Phoenix. The high school band I teach has twice been to the Fiesta Bowl Parade and Field Show in Phoenix, AZ. I wish I could have said to Mr. Baker, because of the humanity you showed me as a pathetic basketball manager, I have continued my growth to care about the kids I teach. As an adult, I wish I could have invited him to come to the University of Phoenix Stadium to see how his impact on me, has positively changed how I interact with today’s kids.
You helped me become a better person. Thank you Mr. Baker.

When ever I think back to the days at okemos, Mr Baker is always in those memories. Everything that was good about Okemos, was represented by him. He deserved a long and productive life and a loving family. He was truly lucky to have gotten both. Miss ya "Mr. B"

To the Baker Family:
It was a privilege to have made the acquaintance of your father in AZ.
He was a true gentleman and so dear to all of us. We loved his sense of humor, wit, and charm. Tom and I would have loved to watch him play tennis and basketball in his "early days". You were truly blessed to have him as your father...and for so many years! He loved my desserts and would ask me if I had baked my chocolate cake or brownies. He was "that man" in the framed poem I had written for his 90th birthday gala.
He will be dearly missed and live within our hearts forever!

Maureen, Mike and Family. Your father will truly be missed by all of us. As one of his students and especially as a player on one of his many basketball teams, I feel so honored to have been taught, guided, coached and inspired by his caring and encouraging presence. My fondest memories of Okemos High School will always include your father as part of those wonderful years.

Maureen and Mike. We only knew Bob for a few years. We helped Bob celebrate his 90th birthday bash in Sun Lakes. We always enjoyed watching him play and having him around the tennis courts. He will truly be missed. May God Bless you all. Duane and Vonnie Ticknor

Dear Mike, Maureen and family, what wonderful and loving words you shared about your father. I have such great memories of all the times I spent with you and your father throughout high school, from his teachings of great history, fabulous coaching and inspiration, and his excellent approach and dedication as a vice principle. He has left a wonderful legacy and truly will be missed. My love to all,

I would have never made it through OHS without the guidance and support of Bouncing Bobby Baker. I will always remember him as a kind and gentle person who had time for each of us. My condolences.

Maureen and Mike...such wonderful and loving words about your Dad. I have only great memories of all the time I spent in your happy home during thevhigh school years and your Dad was such a big part of that. His World History class was the one class I truly learned something in and he taught it with such humor and vigor. what a blessing to have had him with you all these years and that he had so many of you to love him back and share all
that with. I send my very best and I have always thought of all of you with only fondest of memories.
With love,

Mike, Maureen, et. al.:
I was saddened to learn of your Father's passing today. He was truly a great guy. I hadn't seen him in a long time and ran into him in Pentwater several years ago. I didn't know he had a home there. We talked for some time as if we had last spoke only a short time before. That is the sort of man he was. He will be missed by all, without question.
All the best to you all.

Mike and Maureen (Charlie), you two had the best dad in Okemos. The loving words written in his honor bring fond memories of his delightful personality. His family is fortunate they got him. I'm glad to have known him many years ago in Okemos.

Maureen and family-What a wonderful tribute to your father! I remember him very clearly at our high school games and at your house on Hamilton Road. He was such a kind man and always wore a smile. You could tell just from looking at him that he loved kids. You were very blessed to have had him in your life for so long. I hope we can meet up one of these years at a class reunion. Maureen, Mike and family,
It was very sad to read of your dad's death in today's paper. Coach Baker is remembered by so many OHS classmates as a wonderful, caring teacher and coach. At 91 he certainly lived a full life, but it doesn't make the parting any easier. Very warm thoughts to each of you.

Mike, Maureen and family. Your father was a wonderful man. I worked with him as a secretary at OHS in the late sixties. He had a great sense of humor and was a shining example to the students as well as the staff. How great that you had all these years with him. May God bless you all.

Mike, Maureen and family, What a beautiful obituary. And how wonderful your father was able to remain active for 90+ years. Truly fortunate for you all. I remember your parents well and visiting your home on Hamilton Rd. I think of your family every time I pass by there. Brother Jon passed away in December and Jim in 1997. Their high school years certainly were highlighted by their sports successes and relationship with Coach Baker. Blessings to you and your families. Janice Kreider
