David Hernandez Obituary

David C. Hernandez LUBBOCK-Rosary for David C. Hernandez, 78, of Lubbock will be today at 7 p.m. in Calvillo Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Monsignor Jim O'Connor officiating. Burial will be in Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the direction of Calvillo Funeral Home. David was born June 19, 1935, in Winters, Texas, to the late Paul C. and Leonor Hernandez. He worked in aviation for Miller flying service in Plainview and Black Hills aviation in Alamogordo for many years before retiring and enjoyed visiting with family and friends. As a musician, he played the saxophone for a variety of artists, including Alfonso Ramos, Isidro Lopez, Ray Montelongo Perales Jr., Epifanio Ochoa, Pete Morales, and the Blue Moon. Survivors include three sons, Richard Hernandez Sr. of Lubbock, Rolando Hernandez and Jerardo Hernandez, both of Ft. Worth; one daughter, Sylvia L. Rangel of Lubbock; two brothers, Gilbert Hernandez of Corpus Christi, Ernest Hernandez of Abilene; two sisters, Enedina Martinez of St. Peters, Mo., Elva Lopez of Abilene; ten grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Herminio Hernandez and one grandson, Ricardo Hernandez Jr.
